So lately I’ve been thinking about getting a kitten.. but I want to be 100% sure in our decision. I’m worried about my couches more than any other furniture in my house lol … are there ways to prevent them from scratching your couch or am I screwed either way?

Pretty much screwed. I heard Citrus essential oils help keep scratching away. Never tried it. I do know certain ones are harmful to pets. Haven’t fully researched it

Cat caps. You glue them on their nails. They eventually fall off.

@sourpatchkid, I find them randomly through the house. They last a couple weeks until their nails grow out enough to pop them off.

I clip my cat’s nails once a week. I do it when she’s sleeping and I can usually get one paw done before she bites me. Then when she’s asleep again, I clip the other.

My couches have never been scratched. I think it’s just dependent on the individual cat. We have scratching posts and cardboard scratchers and they prefer those to anything else. If you start handling their paws as soon as you get them, they also do nail clips a lot better since they’re used to their paws being messed with.

@uni.cheapskate, owch! Were they feral? I’ve had cats my whole life and never encountered any like that.

Yes get catch post to help with their addiction to scratching. They make cat caps for nails I’ve also seen people literally go get their cat declawed BUT they have to be 100% inside cats at all time because they cannot protect themselves when outside without their nails.

My cats never scratch our furniture. We have scratching posts and lot of toys etc to keep them entertained.

I did the spray I can’t remember what’s it called but that worked for a little bit but after it was back to usual business
