I had a random thought last night. When a pet dies, what do you do with the body? When i was a kid my dad used to bury our pets under a big tree in the mountains where he worked. I was just thinking about what other people do. Do they get them cremated or bury them in their backyard? Do they go to the vet and have them dispose of the body? Our dog is older and i was just thinking about what we would do. Just my random late night thoughts 🙃 would love to hear what other people do...

Our large lab will be 15 in two weeks. We have decided to cremate to spread his ashes. We will make a little memorial in his “sunning” spot in our flower bed where he’s dug a hole to lay in. And at our lake house…his favorite place when he was younger.
Sounds awful to others but I keep their bones. we have a”body basket” under the tree in the back of our yard we put them under it until the decaying process is finished ( no it doesn’t smell if you keep the basket closed) in about a year I’ll have clean bones to sun bleach 🙂 I know it’s morbid but hey 🤷🏻♀️ to each their own lol!
@jaixi, really just depends on the animal! I have a shelf in the livingroom with a bunch of cool and odd things lol! We lost our 6 quail to disease this year and I will be selling their bones and skulls online once finished! Sometimes I use them for craft as well. Our cat on the other hand, his skull will be coming back inside and put on our shelf!! Bones are fascinating to me, I like the creepy things lol.. 😅

What happens with rain and the basket?
@jaixi, nothing actually, we have been using the same basket for two years and it’s held up really well! Since it’s a wicker basket it allows in the bugs and weather to help with the decomposition!
We cremated our golden retriever so we could keep her here with us. She passed at the emergency vet, so they handled the arrangements. I do know that we paid extra to have her cremated alone. Apparently they would cremate several animals at once and the ashes would be a mixture.
I’m getting my pets cremated. I joke with my husband that I am going to get the cat stuffed and placed on our bed 😂😂😂.
Lol that sounds like something my SO would say about our dog. He legitimately calls her his daughter 🙄🤪
i’ve always cremated mine and got an urn for their ashes.
I was thinking about maybe doing that with our dog when she passes but I didn't know if you could take a dog to the bet after it dies to get it cremated or if they only create if putting it down.
@jaymeerene, I’ve never gotten them cremated at a vet, i take them to the funeral home.

Ok do you wrap the body in plastic or just bury it as is? I started to think about it decomposing and then becoming fertilizer. Gosh that sounds morbid.
@jaymeerene, some of our pets have had special blankets and we’ve wrapped them in their blanket.
My dogs in the past have been cremated. The one who passed away most recently I couldn't have her cremated bc I was out of state so chose to bury her. We made a pine box, places her brother's remains under her front paw, and pace them on cedar chips inside the box. We then buried them under a nice tree on some property we own.
