I’m always baffled at the sheer amount of parents who will justify and whine and cry about food restrictions at school if their kid is in a nut free school/classroom. Apparently making sure a kid DOESNT DIE isn’t as important as your precious snowflake having their “homemade lunch” or their PB and J sandwiches 🙄🙄🙄🙄

Our schools can have nut products for lunches but not for snack as snacks are in the classroom. Mia had a child in her class that was deathly allergic to peanuts. So much so the teacher asked for prepackaged snacks. But some of the snacks I like to buy in bulk so I would email the teacher a picture of the ingredients any and every morning I sent a snack not prepackaged. Like popcorn. I wasn’t messing around with another child’s life. People are selfish and ridiculous.

I get it with the nut snacks but my daughters school no long allows goldfish or regular pretzels because it’s “unhealthy” but they allow cheese and gogurts 🙄🙄🙄
I find that annoying
Cheese is healthy. And both cheese and gogurt at least have protein and calcium. Goldfish and pretzels are just empty calories.

I was sending kynzleigh an uncrustables to school... Until I learned a kid in her class had a nut allergy.

Also at Aubreys therapist office. The office lady is severely allergic to cinnamon. They had to take her to the hospital because a patient wore cinnamon perfume and after two EpiPens it still wasn't enough. Shes that allergic can't even be around the fragrance of it 😬

They didn't tell me that I couldn't still sens her to school with peanut butter sandwiches. I chose not to because thats the considerate thing to do.
Sun butter is hit or miss with kids honestly. Some kids take right to it. Some kids hate it. I personally think it’s disgusting 😂😂😂. They are super easy to make at home though. The uncrustables

For real. Dominics school said no peanut butter… did I complain… no… I bought some dang almond butter (it was on the approved list). 🤣🤷🏽♀️
And generally it’s only in elementary school simply because of how young the kids are. Middle schoolers who have nut allergies are very good usually about knowing what they can and cannot eat. And what they can and cannot touch AND they are generally better hand washers.
When my kids were in 3K they had a kid in their class with a nut allergy and that shit was stressful! I never had experience before and I stressed about snacks..... so many things have "made in nut facility" and some kids can't even have that! One time I bought a box of Ritz Crackers and a couple of them had peanut butter on them and I was like what if someone with a peanut allergy got this box?! That year was tough! Lol my 3 made up most of the class so we were constantly bringing the snack.
It is stressful to find nut free snacks especially if you are not a nut free parent who regularly has to buy nut free things. Our elementary in WI was completely nut free and I remember with our first kiddo in school how hard it was to get used to it. It served me well though because I had to be dairy free with my youngest so was back to reading labels on everything while nursing.
I think God every day that my kiddo goes to a peanut free school. She has a peanut/tree nut allergy and she's anaphylactic. They don't allow it in the building at all. Sun butter sandwiches are served in the cafeteria and the lunch monitors actually inspect kids food to make sure nothing is sneaked in. I'm well aware that it won't be like this forever so I've started to train kiddo to recognize things/smells that can trigger a reaction.
That has to be so nerve wracking especially when you have parents who are so adamant that their special precious snowflake shouldn’t have to not eat certain things because it could kill another kid. “Well that’s what epipens are for” excuses and shit. Sometimes epipens don’t work and people die from exposure to allergens. Especially in elementary school when kids are so young. Don’t wash their hands properly and often share food just being a kind friend. Not knowing the potential ramifications of that.
It's not THEIR kids problem, why would they care?? 🙄 They're the same ones that probably think it's just all made up and we just need to feed your kid peanuts when your not around to prove you wrong. 😳
I feel this to my core. My kid has a pineapple allergy so he can’t even drink fruit punch. Our entire campus has a no mango policy due to a staff member who interacts with every classroom.
I also get that some of our kiddos are very food picky, sensory issues only allow them to be okay with certain foods, etc. However when you’re on a campus with 500 other students, everyone’s needs and limitations need to be respected. I’d rather work on adapting than the GUILT I might feel if I wasn’t following protocols and something really bad happened to someone else.

I'm allergic to pineapple and get so upset. That shits in everything. I had a friend who planned a day out during mango fest with a bunch of food trucks. I couldn't eat anything that day 🥺 where there's mango, there's usually pineapple.
Eta- it got advanced and my throat starts to close and i go into coughing fits when i rince off the bowls with wing sauce at work that has pineapple.

@squishymommy1, yeah we definitely did a lot of prepackaged which is so much more expensive but again this is a child’s life. The teacher loved I’d email her ingredients and knew not to send anything that had even been processed near peanuts. Some people just literally have their heads up their asses. It’s crazy.
I can't imagine the worry if your child had life threatening allergies and you just sent them out in the world. I remember that model/actress who was like 20 when she bit into a pretzel bite at a party and it was filled with peanut butter and now she is in a nursing home on a ventilator, completely paralyzed. It's so serious when someone has an allergy like that, people just do not know.
I imagine, especially in elementary school that those parents wait by the phone everyday for that phone call. I made a TikTok about it and one of the moms is crying about her “homemade lunches” because I’m telling her she should not be sending her homemade lunches when she admits HERSELF that her kitchen has cross contamination with nuts. Then don’t send homemade shit from your kitchen? How fucking hard is that.
Transgender children
So I just learned that in my kids school district (my kids aren't in school yet my oldest will be starting kindergarten next September) there are twin boys who identify as girls. They are 5 years old. What's your opinions on this matter given they are 5!!! I don't believe that at that age they really understand the whole thing. I was skeptical but I thought what the hay, I'll try it out. I didn't bank on Dh falling asleep, but both him and lo were asleep by minute 2. And lo slept six straight hours. ?
