How can I increase my milk supply? At the hospital a day after birth my milk came back in and I V was pumping 8 or more oz of milk every few hours. Now I’m home I am only pumping about 5 or 6 oz of milk and I am breastfeeding my two year old and my newborn. I have no idea what happed with the decrease in milk.

5, 6 oz is totally normal and actually a great amount. You are feeding 2, your milk is regulating, not sure how old baby is but if they were just born they probably aren't eating 5 to 6 oz worth at this point so you are actually producing much more than you actually need.

I an nursing a 2 year old and 1 week old. You think it’s normal? I thought I was losing milk since I started at 8 and dropped down. This is reassuring to hear. Thank you !

Yes, totally. A week old isn't going to eat 6oz in one sitting so the fact that you are feeding 2 and making that is amazing! Honestly don't be surprised if it goes down a little more in the coming weeks. I'm not sure when you plan to go back to work or why you want a large stash so soon but pumping while baby eats and night/early morning (4am) pumps are best times to get milk. Be careful so you don't have an over supply or get mastitis. Good luck, sounds like your body is doing what it needs to tho!

@scidg3, I guess my thinking was my 2 year old was drinking to much and I want to make sure I have enough for the baby as well. Especially since it’s no way of knowing how much milk a child is getting. I wanted to have a big stash for some feeds for my husband to help at night and to give my breast a break from feeding two kids. Thank you so much for the reassurance.

Oatmeal def helped me a lot. You can also try lactation cookies. These were good.

It’s possible your milk is regulating too. Are you pumping primarily or do the babies nurse? First few weeks/months milk supply is hormone based but as those regulate it’s very supply and demand. The more they nurse, the more they should get out. If you’re primarily pumping, keeping hydrated and taking your prenatals can help. Also look up power pumping. La Leche League and KellyMom are great online resources with big communities that can help provide additional ideas.

They primarily nurse but I like to leave milk so my husband can feed at night while I rest. Thank you so much for the helpful advice! I’m going to look into this and post this helps. I didn’t pump with my other kids so it’s a little overwhelming.

Drinking plenty of water. Eat oatmeal.

I’m doing that now and not seeing a difference 😫
