Let’s talk PTO and who’s involved with their kids school.
I get A LOT of mixed reviews about being on the PTO so let’s hear your thoughts; why did you join or why won’t you?
If you have served or currently do let’s see those back to school PTO boards for enrollment. Do you have a must have planner? Are you in any PTO group??
I was pta vice president for 2yrs. It was definitely a lot of work but a good experience. My girls transferred to a different school district last year so i just volunteer now.
I am not part of the pto but I’m very good friends with the prez, Vice President and secretary. I do volunteer though. I ran the schools trunk or treat 2 years ago then the virtual pumpkin decorating contest last year due to covid we couldn’t do trunk or treat and I’ll be running the trunk or treat this year with the secretary again. It’s a lot of work. I recently ran into the treasurer and she asked me to join the pto to which I replied no but I will help out in anyway possible. I just don’t wanna be an official part of the pto. Too much politics involved and I ran into a bit of a mean girl situation when I did the first trunk ir treat. It turned me off, which is really sad because it’s really for the kids. The women who I took over for the trunk or treat was super helpful though. She gave me all the info I needed for it to be a success. I’m not kidding u when I say this women made me look so stupid in front of the entire pto, some teachers and the principle. I was so upset about it I told my friends that I would not do the trunk or treat again if she was involved in any way. She is no longer a part of the pto that why I’m doing it again this year. We have been joining via google meets for the last year. Not president.
I don't sign up because everything that goes on in both my kids classes is always the same days and time so i don't want to pick and choose where to be. I do sign up to send paper towels, drinks, food etc in both classes though.
@mommiesgoneabitmad, No they do that after school but like homeroom parties and field days/trips and stuff like that the PTO and homeroom moms is in charge of here and I can't be in two places at once. 😂
My friend and her husband are pto president. They're literally the only 2 people on the pto. It's quite sad. I'm kind of the unofficial secretary of it. I'll volunteer as much as possible behind the scenes but as far as helping at actual events...that's a no go. I like to attend them with my daughter especially since my husband can't always attend because of work. In my opinion all the hard work that is associated with pto at school events isn't worth missing the special moments I get to have with kiddo at her school while she's little, especially since she's my only one.
@mommiesgoneabitmad I say this ALL the time at work! Well...somethin similar. I say "Fuck this place, you KNOW at home I'm a president right"?!?! 🙄🤣
We're a small country ass school though girl, I'm SURE your program is MUCH more to contend with! 💯

School fees Having an intense debate on Facebook about school fees for public school. I'm in the "stop whining about school fees and stop having kids if you can't afford them" camp and there is the other camp of "free school is a constitutional right! It's bull s*** we have to pay anything at all".

I find it pretty hilarious how people who have shown their true colors on social media snake away, delete the posts that outed them and come back on social media like nothing happened. Why do that, you outed yourself, so stay out. We still see you boo boo...

At the beginning of the year, you'll have a big, gung-ho group but you'll see em start droppin out, quit showin up. You'll end up with the same group of about 5-8 Mama's that'll be your ride or die, show up rain or shine. You'll become VERY good friends and drink LOTS of wine together. I can't TELL you how many times we've been at someone's house at 1 a.m. sorting tshirts, painting signs or tryin to fix the damn cotton candy machine....like 4 boxes of wine in.
Yes, yes I said my ratchet PTO Mom friends and I drink boxed wine ok! 🤣

Lots of people are shocked when they find out! You should see the looks on some of the new Mama faces when they show up for that first meeting and see my spazz ass, that they knew in highschool, mommin and runnin the show. It's a bigger trip for them than me. Lmao

I start a new one at the beginning of every school year. I get a list of all the years activities from the principals office and put em in month by month and take it from there.
I call one big meeting the week before school starts, we handle any old business still open from last year, take nominations for the new cabinet and give everyone a rundown of what we've got goin on that first month of school. The first few weeks of school are rough, as we're gettin into the swing of things but after that, I call a meeting once a month.

DON'T get caught up in the details, it will NEVER go as planned, you will never have as much help as originally claimed and you GOTTA learn to improvise and roll with the punches. Elect people to the other positions that will ACTUALLY HELP you, not just ones that think the title is cute.
I truly enjoy it but it's WORK. This last year wasn't half as bad though cause with Covid I wasn't able to be the homeroom Mom and PTO president. They wouldn't let anyone but kids in the school so no class parties or any of that fun stuff I got to do the year before. That's really the fun part.

yes we have the big binder that has all the rules, outside vendors, event schedules, etc. It makes it easier for us throughout the year

have you tried asking the principal or teachers that are involved. Ask for previous years fliers, anything they might have the principal or superintendent should have some knowledge of what happens.

we’ll she ended up leaving and it was a huge mess she literally left nothing and no one knows where anything is or how to get ahold of her lol

I know our previous president gave my friend a big book with the entire schedule of events, contacts for outside vendors, how to navigate timelines to get permissions from the superintendent. Maybe ask the previous pto president for a sit down meeting and ask questions and take notes.
