As I packed my sons lunch I see the container I put there was missing which I expected. But I also see his water bottle missing, I asked him where it was and he said he threw it away in the trash because that’s what you are supposed to do 😂😂 he was like I’m so sorry. Told him don’t worry you are not in any trouble, honestly I’m not going to get mad over a dollar container and water bottle. From now on snack size zip bags and disposable bottle of water.

They’re both old enough that if you asked them to bring them back home then they’d likely remember. A lot less waste and trash that way!

It’s my 8 year old and he is on the list to see a developmental pediatrician. With him it’s never been as simple as telling him to not remember something. His physical age really has nothing to do with what he can mentally comprehend. It actually turned out that his water bottle was in his book bag even though he told me he remembers leaving it in his classroom and promised to bring it back.

@alejandra_593, Is he on an IEP? Maybe the teacher or an aide can help him get into the routine of remembering to put his things away after lunch. Just a suggestion so you don’t need to keep buying and throwing away plastic items! I’ve seen many children of varying abilities be able to master skills even with limited working memory or with executive functioning difficulties.

he does and I spoke to his teacher. He also does well with visual placing a small list of what comes home in his lunch box or bag would help him remember.
