What the hell is wrong with people?!? If you have guns KEEP them put up!!! It’s not that hard. Yesterday a 3 year old found a gun and shot and killed himself. This morning two 5 year olds found a gun and one shot and killed the other one. It’s absolutely heartbreaking and something so simple could have prevented these situations.

This is also why it’s SOOOOO important to ask the parents of your kids friends who they spend time in their home. If a) they have firearms and b) how they are kept.

THIS! Proper gun safety is a HUGE HUGE talking point in our house, always has been. IF for some reason they're outta the safe, like we're preppin for a hunt, they ALL have trigger locks on them. There are NO excuses for this type of shit happening, if you ask me! If you're going to own guns, you BETTER be prepared to do it safely and correctly. That's why we have more gun safes than we do people in this house, they ALL need a spot to be locked away. Kirk has one he leaves in a hidden compartment of his night stand, but Kai isn't even aware of that spots existence. It just looks like a regular nightstand with drawers. That one also has a trigger lock on it though. I get hassled for "bein over the top", but I GUARANTEE you if somethin EVER happened to my baby, they'd be the FIRST ones talkin shit bout how it was my fault. As it WOULD be!

I think parents of children that this shit happens to, need to face charges, negligent homicide! 💯

And also as me and my husband discussed earlier, the children’s toy nerf guns are hard for my little one to shoot. All of my children had a hard time with those PLASTIC toys! How are these young children able to shoot a real gun so easily!

It’s actually really easy to accidentally discharge a gun. It requires pressure, not force. I grew up around guns, which my grandpa taught me way more about than I ever wanted to know. He collected the old war guns and owned a shit load of hunting rifles, which he kept locked in a fireproof gun safe in his basement so “lesson” time would always be down there and then he’d lock it right back away 😅 BUT him doing that gave me a lot of useless knowledge and have been able to shoot a lot of different things, it would surprise you how a small amount of pressure can make them go off.

@supermomof4 🙌 PREACH girl! 💯 That's my first question always too, WHY were kids that age playing unsupervised long enough for something like this to happen?? WHY were they going through drawers, pulling things out of them to look at, I'm SURE they were giggling and laughing like they found somethin cool too and NO ONE noticed until a fucking shot was fired?!?! 🤯 Even if they didn't giggle or laugh, ANY decent damn parent KNOWS that silence is the WORST thing to experience when you've got little ones. They still had time to get it from wherever it was hidden, figure out how it worked and pull the damn trigger! WHY??? WHERE were the "adults" in this situation?? 🤷‍♀️ It sounds awful, but they DO deserve it, just sucks the kid didn't shoot them with it, instead of one of their siblings. THAT would be fuckin justice! They need to be prosecuted, period. If it weren't for their negligence, their child would still be alive. I hope they SUFFER every single day of their lives with that FACT.

@momgroupreject Yeah a glock not having a manual safety makes me VERY uncomfortable. We have 2 of those and they are kept in the safe that's in Kirk's nerdboy room. They are as far from Kai as they possibly can be, with a trigger lock, in a locked safe, in a room that only Kirk ever goes into. I make him leave the door closed, cause my OCD canNOT handle the disaster his beautiful mind has created in there. That door sticks though, you have to make an actual effort to get in and it's not quiet so it's VERY obvious when anyone is going in there. We've also been talking to Kai about guns/gun safety since he was old enough to do more than just drool, he's always been around them and knows how SERIOUS the handling and care of a firearm is. If a 5 year old is smart enough to figure out the severity to which mishandling can change things, I'd THINK adults old enough to make a firearm purchase could figure it out too. Fuckin sad.

@supermomof4 Didn't even have the fucking safety on AND one chambered?!?! 🤯 These people should NEVER be allowed to own a gun or raise another child for the rest of their damn lives!

This is so sad. 😭

Not only are our firearms locked away and out of reach we’ve been talking about gun safety with my son since he was 4yrs old and will be doing the same with my daughter.

Ugh terrifying. All of mine are either locked up unloaded behind a false wall that you wouldn’t even know is there unless you already knew, or in a finger print safe (safety on) when I’m not carrying it.

He has had it drilled into him that my guns are not toys and that he does not touch them for any reason.

Gun safety is so important and too many people don’t care.

Unfortunately a lot of people use “gun safety” as an excuse for why they don’t have secured firearms.

@squishymommy1, “gun safety” but then give children toy guns to “play” with. Make it make sense.

Our local police stations give away FREE gun locks and people still can't be bothered.

@supermomof4, it’s actually quite astounding the amount of people who have children who don’t secure their firearms.

@squishymommy1, yes! I’ve only came across one family who didn’t secure their guns and I didn’t let my child stay. I’ve heard stories from other parents and friends and couldn’t believe it!

I'm with you, 100%. People develop these love relationships with their guns and don't think about the consequences at all. I guarantee neither of these families lived in some hell hole that they needed to defend their lives at the drop of a hat. There is no excuse to have an unsecured gun in a home with children, not ever. I lost a classmate to this as a kid. My child isn't allowed into several in laws homes or vehicles because they are gun nuts. Not normal people who own guns and secure them safely, they're the crazy ones.
