Car seat question. My son is 5.5 years old and 45 pounds. He has one of those car seats that has the 5-point harness but the harness is able to come off and be used with the seat belt.
My question is when did you make the transition? The company says min age of 5 and 40 pounds to start using the belt restraint instead of the harness.
I'm asking your opinions because wehave a 3 row vehicle and I'm putting my 2 oldest in the 3rd row and the younger 2 in the middle but it's really difficult climbing back to unbuckle him, but he could do it himself with the regular seat belt.
I'm not looking to be attacked, I'm genuinely curious and will happily struggle with the harness longer if you girls think I should. I'm just looking for opinions on what you think!
Thank you 🙂 I just wanted to hear other's opinions. I'll choose the safer route and keep him in the harness.
My daughter is 6 yrs 3 months and she’s still in a highback booster with harness. She’s tall but thin and I know it’s safer so I’m trying to stick with it as long as possible. But in your case since you need him to buckle himself then it might be worth switching him to the regular belt. I’ve considered doing it with my daughter because it’s annoying that I have to buckle and unbuckle her.
My son can buckle himself but it's the unbuckling that's going to be a struggle because each time I need to unbuckle him I would have to climb into the 3rd row to get him out.
Mines been in the same seat since three I think he has one more loop to go but it’s tight so I just do the top clip and my younger son was just in a seat thing with the car belt since three but he’s 12 and I wouldn’t put him in one cuz technically I should be in one too if that’s the case 🤦♀️😭
Are you saying you only clip the chest clip and not the crotch on your 6 year old? That’s very unsafe, if so.
@2sweetie oh goodness I would never just do a chest clip. In an accident they could slip right out from under it. 🥺
I personally kept Aubrey harnessed until 7 but here's the difference... Aubrey wasn't even 40 pounds at 6.
Yeah my son is pushing 50 pounds and is VERY tall for his age. But I'm thinking if I'm really having this hard of a time debating I'll keep him in the 5-point harness longer
@countrypeaches42013
Aubrey was like 95% in height just super tiny weight wise. She's in the graco wayz and it harnesses until 65 lbs and 49 inches.
The question mainly is. Can he sit still and correctly in his booster, even when asleep?
@raisinglittlegamers he hasn't fallen asleep in his seat in a VERY long time and he's not wiggly at all. He just sits quietly staring out the window 😂 I try talking to him but he's just silent in the car lol
I took my son out of 5 point harness and use seat belt with the cat seat now he was to tall and it was always cutting into his neck. We will be buying a high back booster seat this spring. My son does great with a seat belt and I have no issues with him not wearing it the right way
I know this sounds horrible, but I kinda can't wait until my kiddo can just get in the passenger seat and put on a seat belt and we can go get a frappucino and hit the dollar spot at Target. Sigh. Freaking covid.
Thank you! I'm just trying to get an idea when I feel he'd be ready. I think he would do great but didnt want to make the switch too soon and be judged lol
@countrypeaches42013 i think each child is different and there are many styles of car seats out there i think the most important is the correct seat for hight and weight and if they would keep buckled and stay seated with a regular seat belt.
@jenx @lexhernandez that's a good idea. I can always test him in it and see how it looks and how he fits and feels in it. Thank you for your opinions 🙂
We didn't switch our daughter until she was 5 lbs from the upper limit of her seat. I believe 85 lb was the limit and we switched to the seat belt around 80-82 lbs because I wasn't going to weigh her between car rides.
Thank you 🙂 My son is a little over the minimum age and weight to use the seat belt. He will still be in his car seat just not the harness but I feel it's probably safest to keep him using the 5-point harness and just have to climb all the way back to unbuckle him lol I have tried teaching him to unbuckle himself and he just has not figured it out. He can buckle himself no problem. I'm definitely thinking I'm never leaving my house after this baby is born 😂
I'd keep him in it until he hits the limits. The harness is overall safer than a seat belt but only up until they outgrow it. Also kids usually aren't mature enough to sit with a seatbelt until 6+.

Question ladies is this a good car seat to purchase? Bany Mac's feet is hanging over his infant car seat that came with his travel system so we are considering purchasing this one but neither one one of us knows anything about this brand . Could someone please help us 🤔 if you have this car seat could you please give your opinion on it thank you 🤗
Ladies that have 3 kids and kinda close to my kids age what car seat do you have? Also how do you have then in your car as well. I have a suv and can move one child to thrid row but dont want to just yet.
My son is 13 pounds and the car seat harness seems to be very tight m, are there any extra straps I could buy or should I be getting a different car seat because it’s extremely tight and he’s only 13 pounds

Infant Car Seat or Convertible Car Seat?
I am undecided. I have preferences but I'm confused.
I wanna hear you guys opinion.
Convertible Car Seats look too uncomfortable for a newborn/infant. Do they rear face?
When should I change to a high back booster? So my son is 5&1/2 years old and about 55lbs. He still in a 5 point harness car seat. When should I change him to the high back booster seat? I have the graco 3 in one seat.
I’d probably let him max out on the weight for the harness first. They’re always safer, so you might as well utilize it as long as you can. My 6.5 yr old is still using his harness. He’s 50lbs...& tall. He’s in size 8 clothes. And he’s still doing great with the harness. We have a Chicco MyFit! And it maxes out on the harness at 65lbs, so that’s when we’ll switch to the seatbelt!!
