So i got talking about money with someone the other day. They think its strange that my husband and i keep our money separate. What i earn goes in my account and i pay certain bills and the same goes for him. We can ask eachother for money if one of us is going to be behind. Does anyone else do that or are we really strange?

We have individual checking and savings, as well as, a joint savings. We work together!

It's all relative. 🤷‍♀️ I'm sure you think the sharers are a little weird just the same. When people see/hear things being done differently than they'd do them, it's automatically weird.

I personally can't imagine having to keep up with multiple accounts. Our money has always been "our" money since we first started dating. Idk why, things just kinda fell into place that way and we never made an effort to change it. I can't imagine asking my husband to "borrow" money, that's weird AF to me. Like we really gonna sit down and discuss terms or....how does that work? I can't imagine keeping track of like that and/or expecting my husband to pay me back.

Its not "borrowing" its basically moving money from one account to another to pay a bill i do see where "borrowing" from a spouse would be wierd

That isn't weird to me at all, just coverin things. I'm talkin more like the comment above me, by Heather, mentioning borrowing and then paying her husband back $400. That's weird to me. If it's a purchase/expense that large, we are both in on it have discussed the particulars and all that. I just can't imagine that conversation or how it WOULDN'T be weird.

Whatever works for you. We’ve been married for 4 years and right after we got married we combined our money. This is what works for us.

Yes but only because Ive never done it any other way and sounds harder to do and ask for money etc! It’s really what works best for you and family. We have a joint and “personal” accounts. All the bills come out of joint and we can transfer money to personal as needed. We mostly do that because of gifts really.

I say do what works for you. For us, it’s all together. We’ve never had separate accounts. Been together 21 years, married 15.

I mean as long as everything gets paid it don’t really matter .. I can’t spend anything without asking and it can’t be much so 🤷🏼‍♀️🥴

We do this too. We have a joint savings that we both can put money into, but we’ve always had separate accounts.

That is why it is none of their business what you do with your finances. 😂

I don't think its strange. Separate accounts over here going on 12 years. He pays trash, cable and internet. I pay water, gas and electricity. We split the mortgage and split the groceries. Works well for us.

We do this too. I like keeping it separate.

Our money has always been combined, but everyone does what works for them. I have heard of many people with seperate accounts. Personally I would find it very hard to keep track of and figure out how to evenly split everything, especially since both people probably don't get paid the same amount. I find it much easier to put it all in one account and pay all the bills from that account.

I feel like I would feel like this too but I think it’s important to remember that you guys are a team ☺️

I told my friend my mom wants to throw me a baby shower and write on the invite "monetary gifts only" and he told me that people aren't trying to pay for my "gas bill" I'm offended because a lot of money goes into a baby shower, and if you're gonna give me a 10$ blanket from Ross that I probably won't even use it's a waste. I rather use those 10$ for my honest company diaper subscription.
