Okay, so my son has no intrest in learning his letters and numbers! 😄 Here I was thinking it was me and he was just giving me a hard time. In the comment section on his report I want to tell the teacher Welcome To My World! 🤣🤣🤣

Anyone know how or have ideas how to help a very energetic child who wants nothing to do with sitting and learning the above. I posted a learning palette we got and he seems to like it a lot. I might invest in the numbers pack but a variety would also be nice. He is into taking things apart, building kind of things, tools...he is way more hands on than the girls. His struggle is more recognition and writing than verbally saying them.

My nephew is the same at 7yo. My 3yo has no interest in learning. Shes not going in the public school system so she wont be forced to have to learn to write before her hands are fully developed either. Right now its just playdoh, sand, paint, crafts, singing and dancing.

Science study (wish i could find it again) states littles hands arent quite ready for beat and legible handwritting till 7

@no062014 Also, I'm not a fan of our area, somehow they have okay grades but I've seen ppl go from Fs to As in a few weeks to graduate and then drop out because they couldn't handle college. I feel like I struggled but teachers just kept pushing me through. Its odd. I dont want that for my kids. My husband went to private until high school so he doesnt know that public school life! Lol

@scidg3 thats my plan is more of a co op. Its hard on littles. Mine went 3 months without seeing her best friend and it was a nightmare. Its also not as hard or scary once you get into it. Petrified my mom at first bc the requirements looked petrifying. But depending on your state some school districts do still have to provide services to students.

@scidg3 i dont want my little to hate school either. I somehow manahed to graduate and i did well. But i hated it. The pressure of it. I begged my parents to homeschool me but they refused. I did good teaching myself a lot.

@madrex2 lol yep pretty much at that age. Dela wanted nothing to do with sitting to read with me and still doesnt at 3. Didnt care about any of the educational toys, puzzles none of it. But her sensory ball she loved, play doh or paint in a zip lock bag was good. And then just lots of singing and dancing. We did a lot of word party and letter blocks on youtube

We did stuff with playdoh, chalk, sand, art, to practice writing letters and numbers. My son was like that he is still like that he is not a flash card person or a paper pencil. Jack hartman on YouTube has great learning songs my son loves to sing and dance and they helped alot

Incorporate them into play and physical activity.

Some of those blogs repeat the same ideas, but if he struggles staying still, meet him where he’s at. Work on letters and numbers while moving and work in sitting and paying attention separately, with board games or other activities. As his ability to sit and do activities increases, you can try more seated learning opportunities too.

I already see a ton he will enjoy, thank you. It's like my brain can't think. My girls are at the place where we can play board games, cards, sit down games and he sticks around for 5 seconds. It takes a lot to get him to read a book even. When I was going to homeschool he did awesome with doing any schooling outdoors. I knew he would struggle the most and he has gotten better. He is just so active and in his own little world. He needs a different path and I couldn't think to save my brain!

@scidg3, you’re welcome! I’m on a lot of Facebook groups where this comes up, so I can’t take credit for the ideas. I thought they were brilliant when I saw them the first time!

Does your son respond to timers? I’ve seen that trick work with increasing a kid’s ability to sit still. Have them do an activity for x amount of time with a visual representation of when it will be over and slowly increase the time as attention increases. My son loves timers 😂 If he’s being slow with anything, I’ll ask him if he wants to “race” the timer and it usually does the trick.
