Okay guys i need some help. My fiance and i both just hit the 200 lb mark and we are the heaviest we have ever been. We talked last night and agreed we need to change our eating habbits. I would like to do keto but we just cant afford it right now. Im gunna be doing some grocery shopping tomorrow and need some healthy affordable meal ideas. And snacks too. We are both snackers and i need to find healthy things to snack on instead of the junk we normally snack on.

Where did you get this planner? I think this would really help me. I got one of those fruit infuser water bottle things and Im going to drink only from that from now on. My watch has a water timer on it that im going to start using today. I made a list that includes things like chicken veggies fruit and tuna. My biggest struggle will be no dairy and my coffee. Ive never been a black coffee drinker but Im gunna have to make it work. I think having a planner like this will definitely help me though. Im a visual person and being able to see it all laid out infront of me will be a huge help.

@catfish2220, Aldi! But I’m sure you can find something similar online. It was really hard to sit down and write the meals out the first time, but I’m hoping it gets easier each month I do it. I know I can reuse a lot of the weeks too, just need to develop a good rotation plan.

I use Nutpods for my coffee. Almond milk/coconut milk blend. Not as creamy as milk or cream, but I can’t do black coffee.

@humblewarriormama someone told me to add half a thing of premier protein to it and it helps. I might try almond milk if its too expensive for me. Idk if i can do black but I need my coffee in the morning lol. Im just ready to make a change. And if we keep going like we are we are gunna be 3-400 pounds by the time we are in our 40s. Ill check Aldis. Theres one right across the street from my work so ill stop tomorrow when I get off. If I can't find it there maybe amazon will have one

I love to snack on trail mix and granola bars...

My kids love snacking on different fruits and cheese.

Pesto is really good (imo) and healthy. I've made chicken pesto chicken bake. I've also made a Chicken bowtie pesto pasta that was delicious.

I would also recommend learning to make your spaghetti sauce from scratch. You can add some many veggies to your sauce and make it healthier!

Id like to switch from pasta to spaghetti squash or zucchini noodles. I was wondering about the sauce though. Ill have to look up a recipe. I love pesto so ill definitely get some of that. My grandma used to make it all the time and it was one of my faves on chicken. Im gunna have to ask her for her recipe.

@catfish2220

I personally prefer the squash noodles over the zucchini one.

Spaghetti sauce is really easy to make.

I put peppers, celery , carrots and sometimes spinach in my sauce when I make it.

I do use canned tomatoes for it though because I will butcher a tomatoe if I try to cut it myself 😂

I found a recipe for a pesto chicken bake and made it for dinner. It was delicious! Thank you for the recommendation😋

Try some sparkling water for beating his Pepsi habit. I have even found some before that was Dr Pepper flavored. Sparkling water has really come a long way these last couple of years. I have found success with intermittent fasting. You don’t even have to fast that long to start but just establishing some boundaries really helps so you don’t snack mindlessly

I wouldn’t go all out with it right away. I would look to make a lifestyle change by slowly changing small things every few weeks and slowly adding in exercise, no matter how small it may seem, because doing something (even small) is better than nothing.

One time I took milk out of my daily coffee and it made such a drastic difference. Another thing I did (my New Years resolution last year) was to not eat after 5pm at night and only drink water past this time. Even though I was eating what I wanted during the day I lost weight because obviously it was a reduction in calories at an inactive time of the day.

I would start by making small changes that will help drastically.

1. No sugary drinks. Just drink water and seltzer.

2. No more bad carbs. Stop using white bread, white rice, and regular pasta. Instead use whole wheat bread, brown rice, and brown rice pasta.

3. Just get rid of anything with sugar period. Fruit is obviously okay.

Snacks can be nuts, yogurt (no added sugar) hummus with vegetables.

I’m doing weight watchers and it’s not really a diet, it’s more of a lifestyle change. You get free foods like chicken breast, fish, all veggies and fruits. Cut out the cheese and oils, pre plan your meals and snacks for each day and drink a ton of water. I love the plan because it’s not as restrictive as keto and I can still eat the foods I love, just in moderation. I got into a pattern of really unhealthy eating and since I’ve started watching what I eat, I feel so much better and have more energy.

@catfish2220, I’ve tried a few other diets and I just couldn’t stick with them. I’m a really picky eater and got sick of the few foods I could eat really fast. With WW, I can eat a lot of things I really do like so I don’t feel like I’m depriving myself. You get a certain number of points a day, so if you make good choices for the majority of the day, you can treat yourself to a dessert or something else you like. I’ve been doing it since mid November and it’s the longest I’ve ever stuck with a plan.

Snacks.

Fruits

Veggies

smart popcorn.

Almonds

Yogurt

Granola

For food I do a lot of chicken with veggies, and brown rice. I measure everything I eat and just portion size it all, also eggs for breakfast with veggies in it and cheese with a slice of wheat toast you can skip the toast if you want. Also I keep track of what I am eating on fitness pal and set an amount of calories I should eat a day, drink lots of water also! Salads also.

I definitely need more water. I drink a lot of milk and juice and I need to cut that out. And we eat a lot of pasta too and I know that's a big no no when your trying to lose weight. I planned on doing mostly chicken and salads. And then fruit for breakfast and veggies for snacks. Im just worried about my SO sticking to it. Hes always been a bad eater. And ive picked up a lot of his eating habbits. He didnt start gaining weight till recently. He had a high metabolism but it seems to have slowed down quite a bit in the last year or so. But we are both wanting to make a change. He just gets stuck in his ways and its hard for me not to cave when I see him eating things that I would also like to eat. I told him im not going to be buying junk anymore when I grocery shop and hopefully not having it in the house keeps us on the right path. Hes addicted to Pepsi. Its all he drinks. And he claims his stomach hurts if he doesnt have it for too long. And that water also hurts his stomach. I dont drink it but I know thats part of his issue. Im not sure how to help him kick the habbit.

@catfish2220, I bought myself a 24 ounce cup and I just fill it up all day when ever it runs out It definitely helps and keeps my water cold, yes pasta is a no no but you could do wheat pasta and just measure it and have a portion amount. I understand completely my DH eats whatever he wants and drinks whatever, he only just started gaining weight also but he isn’t willing to go on a diet and honestly that does make it hard but just remember you want this and you can do it even if you have to do it in your own, if you ever need support message me! Soda is terrible for you it’s just empty calories i think if he actually gave that up or cut back he would start to lose some of that weight.

You would be surprised how cheap it is to just buy meat, veggies, fruits, etc. Prepackaged food and meals are expensive and have high calories/sodium levels. I would cut out carbs and dairy...eat as many veggies as you want and a palm size of protein at every meal. Also only drink water...

I buy frozen veggies for dinner and rotate that between salad. We snack on fruits, seeds, mozzarella sticks, etc. These things meet my sweet tooth/salt craving but aren't high calories. Also try to stay as active as possible.

Dairy is a big thing for me. Can u sub almond milk? I drink at least a glass a day normally. I have since I was a kid and i know that's part of the reason I have gained weight. I always have a ton of frozen veggies and I make them with every meal but it normally includes a red meat and I was told red meats arent very good for you. Im gunna do mostly chicken and salads. Fruit for breakfast. Are nuts okay? I feel like I can switch out unsalted nuts for a lot of the chips and whatnot that we eat.

@catfish2220 nuts/seeds are a great source of protein and leave you full longer. Red meat isn't very good for you. I eat it once a week of that. We eat chicken, and fish mainly. Maybe switch to almond or a lower fat milk. I'm not sure my husband and I don't drink it so it really isn't a problem. We eat Swiss cheese once in a while.

Totally recommend roasting frozen veggies! I get california and normandy blend. I put a little olive oil on them. Throw them in the oven for like 20-30 minutes in the oven.
