Ok question about these stimulus checks. I thought they were only for 600. I didnt claim my kids on my taxes last year so i should only get the 600. I got a deposit of 1200 in my regular bank acount and its from the irs. But my last stimulus check went into the account i got my taxes deposited in. So can someone whos educated on this stuff give me an idea why? Im scared to spend it cuz i dont want them to try and take it back. But my electric bill needs paid tomorrow and i dont get paid till next tuesday. Id rather not have a late fee so idk what to do about this.

@catfish2220 that would throw me off too!! I thought it went to the account you got your first stimulus in, that's weird they sent it differently.

@lifewithlynnieandwill88 Thats what I thought too. I dont know how they even got that account info. I used it for my unemployment but then they switched it to everyone using the unemployment cards. And unemployment and the IRS are two separate things. My boss said it might be the extra 300 people were going to be getting through unemployment and they back paid it but it says IRS on the deposit info and if they just passed it starting the 26th so im doubting they would have back paid anything.

maybe they're using where your work checks get direct deposited into for some ppl? And yes, IRS & unemployment are two separate things, so I don't think it's from that. Definitely odd

Go on the IRS website and seek answers there. In the meantime set what you don't need aside and use what you do. Just be prepared. In most cases of you owe something back they will deduct it from your tax return rather than having you "pay it back".

Okay thank you. If they take it out of my income tax ill be fine. I was thinking they would want me to pay it back all at once and that would break me being on a strict budget as it is.

That generally how one pays taxes to the IRS. They deduct it from what they owe you. However, if they don't owe you anything that's when paying them back gets tricky. I have a good friend who does taxes professionally. I'll try to reach them this weekend to see if they have better advise. Trust me when I say the IRS will absolutely come after their money if you owe them. Better to pay it safe and use what you absolutely need while saving the rest until you know for sure if it's yours for keeps. Hope this helps!!!

So you filed single just you alone? I think it’s fine I was going to say the same thing if it’s a mess up they will deduct the extra $600 from ur income tax. If your really worried just use $600 then put the other away until you get ahold of the IRS.

Single thats why im not sure why they gave me so much. I should have only gotten 600 cuz my fiance claimed the kids on his tax return last year. He hasn't gotten anything from them yet. And they put it in a different account than what they put the last one in. They used my account that my paychecks go into and idk how they even got that account info because I used the h&r block card for my taxes.

I was just coming back to make sure your question was answered. They can't just take it back out of your account, they have to inform you that you were overpaid and then have you pay it back, and that's usually done by keeping your tax return next year to cover it. Does anyone else claim your children on their taxes?

@catfish2220 just that $600. If you're claiming them on your taxes it will probably never be noticed. You deserve it hon! You deserve that and more.
