I haven’t received any information about my daughter speech therapy. She was supposed to get an elevation schedule at the school she is supposed to be attaching next year. But I haven’t heard back since I turned in her paperwork last month. The home speech only got extended until January 11th. I’ve been going to the school asking them if they have any news, but they just brush me off. I’ve emailed & talked to my daughters caseworker and she told me that she will call them to see what’s the hold up, but never heard back from her either. Have any of you ladies been through this? Is it normal for them to take this long to get a date to just evaluate my daughter on her speech?
Yes, totally normal. I’m an elementary school assistant principal. There are legal timelines that need to be followed and in most cases it’s 75-90 days (depending on the state) to complete all of the testing once the decision is made to evaluate.
It took about 3-2 months to fully get set up with the speech therapy when my daughter was getting services for the first time.
But I didn’t go through a school. It was the birth to three program.
I've never been through this, but I'd just keep callin EVERY single person involved DAILY, or multiple times a day until I get an answer. They'll eventually get tired of havin to deal with you and just want to get you answered so you'll leave them alone. It's worked for me in NUMEROUS situations, where I'm gettin the runaround. "The squeaky wheel gets the grease" is so VERY true!! Good luck Mama!
I had a speech evaluation through occupational therapy for my son when he was 3. Then they suggested he started pre school at age 3 and still go at age 4 and have speech 2x a week. He wasn't talking much. Helped alot. But it didn't take long at all. I mean his very first appointment with occupational therapy was months out but I scheduled it the same day I called
Thank you ladies..I’m to have to go again before winter break..but kinda nervous because I went yesterday to ask.
