I always wondered about this part of a new vaccine and I am highly allergic to eggs, my son to pineapple. We both keep 6 epi pens and we could both end up in the hospital with a bad vaccine reaction. It’s why I’ve never taken a flu shot.
I know it’s early in the game, but this screams at me because this is proof of what I’ve been saying about some of us will have to rely on herd immunity regardless of whatever vaccine comes out.
In the meantime WEAR A MASK FOR THOSE OF US WHO MAY NOT BE ABLE TO EVEN BE VACCINATED, IT’S NOT ALWAYS ABOUT YOU!

Yea this vaccine was quick. But the way it was made was a totally different way than any other vaccine we have in the US. This is using the genetic material of the actual virus (mrna) so that our bodies can detect the proteins on the outside of the virus itself. It’s actually really interesting. ZDogg MD does a great explanation of this on his Facebook page. As well, dr. Paul Offit who is a world renowned virologist/immunologist is interviewed in a video as well and he answers a lot of these questions and breaks down how this really wasn’t rushed because of the science behind it. It is scary because it’s new to all of us. But once you have it broken down for you, it’s a little easier to go with.
I'm genuinely asking, is there a version of the flu shot with no egg? I ask cause a hospital I worked at offered 2 versions and a long time ago someone told me one had egg and one didn't. I never asked my job cause I'm not allergic but your post made me wonder.
Yes they do offer a flu vaccine that’s egg free. It’s a special order and has three times the amount of vaccine compared to the regular flu shot and can be only 30-50% effective because it’s based on potential flu strains coming. No thank you.
I was bummed when reading a post on here a few days ago asking how many people would get the vaccine and the vast majority said no. I hope that this is not an indicator or the general public’s opinion because if we want to protect the vulnerable and also move on with life we need to get this thing under some sort of control if at all possible.
I think the reason so many are saying no to the vaccine right now is simply lack of information and testing. This is what happens when you put out a vaccine as quickly as they have with bare minimum testing. I’m not anti vaxx at all, but I’m an honest skeptic because of the use of egg in certain vaccines and my intense egg allergy. I can’t even eat a pancake at IHOP for crying out loud without needing a Benadryl shot and possibly an epi pen so I’m on alert with this vaccine. I can’t help it, I want to live through this like everyone else without dying trying to get vaccinated for it. While there are going to be a lot of people down right refusing, a lot of people will change their tune once they see that it actually works and the side effects are minimal like the vaccines we are used to.
@fairykarmamomma, sure. I understand trepidation. I think they’ve encountered 2 allergic reactions and while I don’t know how many have been vaccinated so far I think it’s safe to say there will be people who are allergic to this just like any vaccine. I understand why you would be nervous since the exact allergies are not yet identified. I do wish there was long term data available, however there is also no long term data on COVID. Either choice is a risk but I feel like only one risk has the potential to help us gain some ground on this thing
Just great....my daughter has a history of what seems like every allergy under the sun 😫. I'm wondering if this is just a liability thing though...like traces of peanuts on food packaging.
To me it’s a sign that more testing needs to be done, while we need the vaccine badly, we need one that everyone in the population can take. The fact that this is happening to health care workers after the first day of vaccinations is alarming
@fairykarmamomma oh there's no doubt that it was rushed and there needs to be a significant amount of testing in the years to come. Honestly in our country's case though we're damned if we do and damned if we don't I feel like since the pandemic had been handled so poorly from the beginning
How hard was it to get your son an epi pen? I'm also allergic to pineapple and it's in almost every fruit drink and I'm always worried about going to smoothie places.
It was actually suggested by Zay’s primary doctor and my allergist so we both have a set of 6.
@fairykarmamomma the amount of times my throat has swelled after eating. Last time it was a hot sauce, didn't know it had pineapple.
@bodybycheetos, I’d bring that to my doctors attention. The only thing is we had to fight insurance to pay almost $2000 for both sets. A set of 6 is $960
We are not doing the vaccine because we don't do the flu shot. My dad had neurological issues after one and so we all abstain to avoid that...

We don’t do the flu shot obviously. I had hope for this vaccine because this is showing as deadlier than the flu so I had an ounce of hope that this might be more friendly than the flu shot.
The other thing is, this virus is still mutating and will do so every year like the flu shot. Right now they will need to create a new vaccine every year. Like the flu shot, it could turn into 30-50% effective rates. I dunno what to think. I watch for now

Yes this has been a very terrifying thought since the beginning! Me and my children rely on herd immunity as well and if we high chances of dying with the regular vaccines I’m sure our chances are greater with this one.
People don’t think about those of us who have no choice but to not have certain vaccines. We don’t want complications, we don’t want to die. We want to thrive like everyone else. That’s why I put emphasis on wearing a mask and it’s not always about you. We can be a very selfish society compared to others, it’s sad.
@fairykarmamomma, yes!! Our country is definitely more selfish than most others.
Aubrey was allergic to eggs luckily she outgrew it around age 3.. 4 ish. Hers was never bad enough to need an epipen though.
Is your son also allergic to latex?
I had a friend who found out she was allergic to latex because of her pineapple allergy.

So My coworker does not get vaccinated for anything due to religious practices and she’s worried about our job making it mandatory since they discussed it earlier this week. It’s crazy how when vaccines even started or came about we were told it would be voluntary but now it’s mandatory and people need a verification card to go certain places. We even have certain states doing lottery drawings just to make people get it. people shouldn’t fear losing their jobs or having to go against their relig...
My son just handed me this…. As an adult I made the decision not to get it and told him why I choose not to. Asked him if he knew anything about COVID or the vaccine and he said no all he knows it’s that it’s out there. At the end I asked him if he wants the vaccine I will sign the form if not we ignore it. He said no thank you 😊.
