I know they do completely different things, but thats part of why this decision is so difficult.
With a Serger I can make professionally finished clothing...all those loopy looking seams on the inside of your clothes--that's what a Serger does.
With a Cricut...well, everyone already knows what that does! I like that the nice one will cut fabric..

I have a serger and I hate cricut. I also have an embroidery both by brothers

I love my cricut.
I wish I was more into fabrics, sewing, iron ons and crocheting, but I’m more into painting sculpting and personalizing. Depends on where your heart is

I don’t know anything about sewing machines lol but I have the maker I do enjoy that it can cut me a perfect shape and Cricut has many patterns to use

I still don't understand anything about what either of them do, except they're hell expensive over here.
