Why Do Some Movies Leave a Lasting Impact?

post image
Movies, people enjoy movies, there’s some we like watching again and again then there are some that one time is enough. Well for me this is one of them. Hachi. My husband had me watch this a few yrs ago and I’ll never watch it again. I was mad at him but not in a I’m not speaking to you mad. More like why did you do that to me?! Was is because I was 9 months pregnant 🤷🏼‍♀️ yes and no. Those who have seen it probably understand. Those who haven’t, well there should be a warning that comes with it. Just wow! The boy in the striped pajamas is another movie I’ll never watch again. The movies my hubby has me watch sometimes 🤦🏼‍♀️

I’ve not seen Hachi, but I know the plot. My poor husband watched it by himself and was absolutely wrecked by it! Dog movies get me hardcore. I cried for an hour straight after finishing the book Marley and Me. Could only watch that movie once.

I haven’t worked up the courage to watch Boy in the Striped Pajamas. I went to the Holocaust museum in Washington DC and cried my eyes out. The stories about the developmentally disabled kids is what made my heart break the most. It’s important to learn about though, even if it is painful.

They’re both pretty intense. I had very different emotions for both. Not sure I could handle that museum. I’d probably be sick to my stomach just knowing it was real. Those poor people. The Shack is another good but sad movie.

I did not like Hachi much but I thought it was too Hallmarkish.

I’m not fond of Hallmark movies myself but it was just too sad for me especially since I have a dog, I was putting myself in his shoes so to speak. I love dogs and don’t care for sad dog movies.

I have watched both, and recommend them with said warning in advance, that they will tear your heart apart. They are sad but many lessons to be learned from them that can help remind us of the kind of person we should strive to be. Sorry he had you watch them pregnant. Certainly NOT a good move and horrible timing... Sorry!!!!

Yes I agree on the lessons they brought. I really don’t think he meant bad just wrong timing. With Hachi I have a dog so it was even more emotional I was bawling like a babyyyyy. The other movie I honestly felt mad, upset and really sad especially knowing it was based on a true story.

@luvbeingamom18 I have a 16+ year old pup who I've had to make an outside pup for the past 3 years. Thankfully she love the outdoors but it breaks my heart not to have her inside, but it was a choice between saying goodbye or having her live out her old age and she is doing remarkably well considering. But every day I fear going outside to take care of her and her sister bc the inevitable will arrive, so any pup doesn't make it movie tears me up. Can't handle them without mega tears and sincere emotional upset. And anything about the Holocaust haunts me.. I feel it to my bones and can't escape from the emotions. Like you I feel a multitude of them at once but the lessons learned are powerful and have helped me to be a better person. I've met survivors of the Holocaust and don't have the words. I am sure dh didn't mean anything bad by it. But timing can really make the difference in how we take in information and process our emotions. Thank you for reminding me of these sad but touching stories. When my children are older I hope the powerful messages will touch their little hearts in a similar way as they have me. Goodnight mama.
