Question?

Keep seeing the news about the new covid vaccine..

I'm curious as to who would be willing to take it and who would refuse? Also do you believe it should be mandatory or personal choice?

Personally I won't be taking it, I'm completely pro-vax however I don't believe enough is known about the virus yet let alone a vaccine. Neither do I want to take the risk of anything happening to myself or my unborn.

Take thalidomide for example - prescribed for morning sickness in the 50s + 60s and resulted in the births of severely deformed babies. Some without eyes, some without limbs etc

What's your take?

I'm the same as you, I won't be taking it, we are all up to date with vaccinations in this house, but we don't know the side effects of any of the potential long term implications of this vaccine.

If it is made mandatory then I think there will be uproar. I will not be giving it to my children, for the same reason I wouldn't want it for myself.

Infact I only know one person who would have it and give it to her children.

I have a feeling it's going to be one of those things they make you have to travel abroad 🤔

That's a good point about the travelling abroad thing, never thought of that.. I'd rather stay in the UK for a few years until more is known long term 😂

I'm hoping they don't as Przemeks family are all in Poland and I don't want to postpone that any longer 😂

I would need to read a bit more about the vaccine and side effects, and effectiveness and success rates before I have it. As a nurse I worry everyday about how covid could affect my family when I'm putting myself in vulnerable situations. So if this vaccine means I can protect myself and them, then I think I would have it. But like I said I would have to research it a bit more first

I would have to make that decision when it’s closer to being rolled out. People are worried about the speed that it’s been found etc but sometimes forget that there has been huge amounts of money and experts working on it (which you might not get with normal vaccines) Whether you take it or not that’s up to you and no one should judge you for it xx

I think it should be personal choice, like the flu vaccine. I will be declining the Covid19 vaccine (if we can). Pro-vax here too, all children are up to date.

Same reasonings, not enough knowledge, and I don't want my family to have the first batch being guinea pigs , I'd rather not take the risk.

These definitely not enough research! I'm with you I won't be taken it. But my OH on the other hand says he's having it and he's read enough about it 🥴🥴

I would be scary to take it, we dont know what side effects can it bring in a future.

I think maybe in a year or so I would be happy to take, but I can't say I will be rushing to the front of the cue and I will certainly have it before I let my daughter have it. My only fear is that they will say that unless you have had it you will have restrictions on your liberty. I also think that both myself and partner will be forced to have due to keyworker roles.

My mum feels the same about being a key worker. She doesn't really want to have it but she's a cook in a care home so feels being a key worker she's going to be made to have it in order to continue working.

i too wont be having it, seen something earlier about to work you have to have it, like a working visa but through a vaccine - i hope this isnt true.

I tested positive for it last week and in isolation with kids.

id rather the risk of 99.9% survival than inject a 90% certain vaccine x

I would get it. They have tested it and it has 94% effectiveness and the people who trialed it had no side effects. If it’s going to protect me than absolutely. I have asthma so I think I’ll need to get it. However Sophia has no health issues and petrified of needles so I don’t think I’d be inclined to get her vaccinated unless it came like the children’s flu vaccine and was a nasal spray. Once it’s rolled out then I guess that’s when people will make their decisions. We are all up to date with vaccinations here too. Sophia’s had her BCG (due to being mixed race). All a waiting game for the vaccination xxx
