How soon after passing your driving test did you become a confident driver?
I passed my test in February and didn’t drive much in the lockdown and when I was heavily pregnant (just twice a month, not to lose my skills).
After I gave birth, it’s my responsibility to do food shopping every week and I’m even less confident to park now after I scratched someone’s car while parking 2 weeks ago.
Is it embarrassing to ask someone to tell you if you’re far or too close to another car while parking? My car is long and I’m looking to change it to a shorter one.
When I passed my test I didn't drive a car for 2 years after it. My insurance was 400 a month it's now only just gone down in Aug to 140 a month. I passed in 2017, I thought I would of forgotten everything but it came back to me then once I got a car it was a 05reg so pretty old and everytime I drove it I stalled so it knocked my confidence loads so I then got a new car n it's only in the last year I've been driven everyday, don't let it set you back learn from your mistakes. I recently reserved into a bay and there was a post behind n i couldnt see it and bounced right off it scratched all the boot left it then i only went and done the same thing so now the paint has cracked and peeling. I looked around to see if anybody seen me do it as I felt so ashamed but nobody was there until this man came and knocked on the window and said to me the car was fine.. Even the people who have had the licence for years have accidents. Don't let it knock you keep going it happens to us all 😊 xx
It took me a fair while. I still get a bit anxious going places I don't know. I've had my licence 8 years now.
Also do you have someone that can go in the car with you a couple of evenings a week and just go for a drive so you can get more confident? I did that with my dad for 2 weeks after I passed and that helped me aswell xx
@liya.bowie when does your husband get home? Even if you just did 20-30mins every evening you need to really be pushing yourself to do it everyday. Otherwise you'll just be dreading it every time xx
@liya.bowie after, I even did lessons in the first year he was born. I took him with me after 2 weeks of driving everyday after my test when I felt a bit better. I also put P plates on my car which helped as I felt people would lay off me a bit. Having him in the car actually helped me become a better driver as I never took and still dont take any stupid risks xx
No babe it’s not rude I used to do it all the time I still do sometimes 😅 just get in your car and try to keep practicing parking parallel but practice with bigger open spots then smaller ones it helped me a lot
I wasnt confident until about 3 months after my test. And I made myself drive every single day even though I hated it to begin with as I was stalling and just felt like I couldn't get the hang of it. I also booked lots of places away or things to do that were a good hours drive away and took my partner with me and that also helped my confidence. Fast forward to now and I've had my license coming up to 2 years and I'm so comfortable with driving now. I still dont overly like parking in car parks full of cars but just park somewhere further away in most car parks they're emptier and you'll have more space.
And no its not embarrassing you'll find more often that not people are happy to help. 😊 xx
I started driving 2 years ago and tbh I still get anxious going places I dont know and wondering if there's parking.
I had an old 2008 car to start with and scratched it 2 times. I remember going to morrisons and there was absolutely no parking space other than one bay. I drove into it okay but I was so scared to reverse out I felt like crying ! There were so many people and cars around looking for parking and people were waiting for me to get out the bay 😭 then this lovely man guided me and I think i thanked him 20 times 😂
I've recently got a new car and I started off so anxious all over again in case I scratch or damage it. Still no accidents ( touch wood) but still always worried about tight space, I drive further away just so I feel comfortable xx
