Question 🙋🏽♀️: what age do you allow your kids to have a cell phone?
My son wants a phone and I don’t know why lol. I’m like you have a iPad for games and anyone you need to call you can have my phone.

My daughter will be 11 in January and she wants a cell phone for Christmas and I feel she is old enough now to have one so I’m getting it.
I personally think it depends on the kid and how many other kids you have. Like in my sisters situation (she has 5 kids. A set of twins in there.) She has some kids who do sports so if shes not with them they have phones to let her know where they are and what they are doing. So like 8 and 9.
I got my first phone in 6th grade.
My son is 9 and has had one since he was 8.
Only because I share custody and that’s my direct line to him and him to me.
@ksmommyx3 I did the same. She enjoys it here and there but it's mostly for her being able to reach me when she's at her friends or I'm picking her up from practice etc. She knows what things she has to take care of or do to keep it..so as long as she's responsible I'm good with it.
I'll get a flip phone for them once they reaches middle school.
I wish those pink razor phones were still out because that's exactly what I would've gotten my oldest lol
I was 15 when i got my first phone. And my mom never agreed to it. My dad got it for me without her knowing cuz i was going through some shit at her house and he wanted to be able to reach me. I am going to start my kids with firefly cell phones when they are 6 only because i want them to be able to reach me directly if there is an emergency. And firefly phones are made for kids. They only hold a couple phone numbers and the parent has to program them in. My neice has one and it only has a few buttons on it. Two for speed dialing, one to answer, one to hang up, two arrow buttons and a select button. I just worry that they will need me for something and I want to be reachable at all times. They won't be getting smart phones untill they are at least 13 and social media will still be a no go.

I considered a phone when my son was going to his grandparents house because I didn’t trust them fully they didn’t listen to things we asked of them but now that we stopped him from going over there it’s no need I think but he wants to communicate with fiends because they all have phones and I understand that but it’s scary but this firefly phone sounds like a good alternative and starter phone.
@luv_2b_amomma I can understand him wanting to talk with his friends cuz i felt that way when i was a kid too lol. All my friends had flip phones and when the razor came out I was the only one in my group of friends that didnt have one. But looking back on it im glad. I wasnt stuck staring at my phone all day like they were and honestly most of them got themselves into trouble on their phones eventually and i didnt cuz when i finally got a phone i didnt wanna screw up and be the only one without a phone again lol. But it really is a great starter phone. She knows exactly who shes talking too and has the peace of mind knowing that she can get ahold of her at anytime.
I will as soon as she stays at home alone since we do not have a land line. Her maturity will determine when that will happen!
I like that a lot !! Not going off age fully but also maturity. My son is definitely very mature for his age but I don’t think it’s a good idea for a 6 year to have a phone with access to internet and all of those other weird scary things.
My kids are just now starting to ask; but they are getting phones until they have their driver's license, until then, we will have 1 extra moblie phone at home, in the case one of them has a sporting event to attend or is going out and about without our supervision or what our current t situation is, which is when we allow DD to stay home alone while we make quick trips to the store.
I see most of everyone who’s kids are asking are much older than my son is and I tried to explain to him he’s to young and it’s no need. You aren’t going anywhere with pandemic and he still communicate with friends so idk 🤷🏽♀️

My mom didn't let me have one until I paid for it myself. I think I was like 15. I babysat and just went with the cheapest prepaid which at the time was verizon 20$ unlimited call and text 😂.
With Aubrey she has a "phone" but she can only use it on WiFi and at home. She has kids messenger on it so that she can video chat her aunt's and cousins back in KY. And her papaw as well.
Wow where has the times gone with 20$ unlimited plan. Does the phone block access from everything else ? Like the internet and calling other people ? Can you see every time a call is about to me made or text comes thru ? It’s just so scary to think about !

I can see who she messages on messenger and she knows she's not allowed to put a lock on it. She does have access to internet but it is set to parental controls.
She can't call anyone but 911...
And can't text, unless on kids messenger
My 6 year old daughter has one of my old phones just to play games. And she can call her aunt on it thru snap chat. It's just for fun, not communication, and she hardly ever uses it. I would not at that age get her an actual cell phone with a plan.
My 9 year old son has the watch. I can call/text and track him. He can only call and receive calls from my approved list and I have access to everything on his watch thru an app on my phone.
How do you approve and track these things without full access to stuff ?

I agree ! And all of these messages I have my son reading to see it’s not just me! It’s no reason for a 6 year old to have access to the internet or anything on a phone.
My oldest is 15 and I still won’t there’s no reason for a kid to have full range of the sick ass internet.... imo find something else to do if she wants one get a job 💯🤷🏼♀️ not paying a extra bill for ppl who can’t wipe their ass right
That is so true ! The internet is a sick place and it only gets worse and this is what’s so scary about kids growing up and wanting access to these things. Haha that’s the best thing I heard all day but it’s so true. I definitely won’t be giving no phone right now. I’m definitely leaning towards 16 or when it if he’s out the house for sports and that’s only. And then it will be a prepaid phone with minutes 😂

@luv_2b_amomma, she did good. She’s never lost it nor broke it. Mainly used to text me. It was a cheap phone too lol. I finally upgraded her phone to a good one a lil before her 14th bday.
😬 well I bought my daughter a phone when she was 6 when she started kindergarten 🤷🏻♀️I pick her up and drop her off put still!!! You never know what could happen and I need to know where my babies are ALL the time. Now my son just started kindergarten this year and since we’re at home no phone. But I think even if he was in school I wouldn’t get him one yet he’s not ready for that yet lol he’ll be the type to call the cops all day everyday 😒😂
I think in that situation I would also give my son a phone to be able to know what’s going on with him and make sure he’s safe but I would take it as soon as he got home lol. Yea with no school it’s like no sir you can continue to use my phone the iPad or game system to talk to fiends.
I didn’t get my first phone until I was 13 and even then it was a pay as you go phone I had to pay for. It’s going to be a good long while before we get our daughter a phone.

My mom was strict with phones too but my dads was like she needs to call if something happens. So i got a phone at 16 lol my dad had to pay the bill but I just don’t think a 6 year old beds a phone.

My kids are addicted to electronics lol. My oldest got a phone from her mom last year. This girl would not let the phone go. We went for a walk and I had to take the phone away. She threw a fit the whole time we walked. My middle kid its the tablet. So far the youngest isn't as bad yet. I am telling them maybe at 13 years old with the phones.
My boys are 9 and 10 and don't have one yet. I said around 12-13.

We aren’t giving our son a phone until we dabble in leaving him home alone. Not quite yet, much to his dismay! He talks to his friends on messenger kids on his iPad, so there is no need here yet.
