This week I’m going to start the potty training journey. I just pulled out her potty chair and she was so excited. I would love to hear any tips you have!!!
#mombassadorchat Moms, Done with diapering? Today we're chatting all things potty training with @smilingwithmyawesome4kids, who is a mombassador and admin of the very popular potty training group in the app. Share your potty training stories, ask questions and share tips on this post. @smilingwithmyawesome4kids will also answer any questions! Here's her bio and general tips: Hello I am Ceiamaria I am a stay at home Mother to 4 children ages 12,8,7 and 11 months old. I am happily married for 12 years and we are still going strong. I am determined and driven for success FAILURE isn't an option for me. I potty trained my oldest at 9 months old. My 2 middle son's were more difficult they were between 18 months and 2 years old. My baby boy was showing interest in potty training, I decided to buy him a potty chair. Potty training tips 1.) Don't rush your child 2.)Don't yell at your child 3.) Don't punish your child for having accidents 4.) Don't give you child candy 5.) Don't compare other children to your child 6.) Do praise your child 7.) Clap your hands when your child goes to the potty. 8.)Take your child every 15-30 minutes to the potty 9.)Don't criticize your child 10.) I don't recommend pull ups but I don't bash mothers who decided to use them. 11.) Remember potty training is not taught in one day you have to be determined to potty train your child. Add your replies in the comments below! Thank you @smilingwithmyawesome4kids !
Any moms of toddler boys who can give me tips on potty training. My 3 year old starts school in september but he has to be potty trained and he wont sit on the potty at all. Everytime i sit him on it he starts crying and gets up.....
We've decided to start potty training our 22 month old since he can pull down his pants, we've thrown ourselves into it. Now the question is, can 22 month olds be manipulative 😳? This child is something else. If we're having him do something he doesn't want to do, like going down for a nap, he'll start saying potty, if we let him go, he just runs all over the place, I guess forgetting he wanted to use the potty 🤦🏿 ♀ Is this a thing? I just go get him and have him sit on the potty and I tell him, "if you say you want to use the potty, then you must use the potty." I feel like I should work on him not "telling lies." But idk what this behavior is. Can 22 month olds be manipulative, and a liar? Someone told me "he's intelligent to know that saying potty will get him out of something he doesn't want to do." I say... this some bull... 😑😒 Another thing, when I try to get him to look at me when I'm trying to tell him he did something wrong, he does not make eye contact. I get down on my knee in front of him, he looks away, I cup his chin with my hand to have him face me, or say "Nordo, look at mommy please," he averts his eyes... you guys 😓 somedays I feel like he's a sociopath 😬 I don't say that out loud though 😅 ugh, I know, I'm CRAZY, but man... what are the chances? lol

My oldest never potty trained till she was 3 1/2.

My daughter fought potty training until she was 4.

My son wasn't potty trained til 3.5, it was TOTALLY pointless for us to try before then. I've heard it's different with girls though. Good luck Mama!

My brother and sister are 13 months apart. When my brother started potty training between 2-3, my sister would have been between 1-2. She really wanted to learn too, but she didn’t have the ability yet to tell when she actually had to go. It caused a lot of bathroom anxiety for her and it was something my mom ended up regretting. Even though she was interested, she wasn’t developmentally ready.

At 16 months my oldest was daytime trained already. She wasn't out of nighttime diapers until her third birthday bc I didn't take the time to get up at night or reduce her fluid intake, but her sister is 2 and is fully diaper free since before her 2nd birthday, with an occasional nighttime accident if we have too much water before bed. It's completely doable but not everyone is able or willing to put in the time and some babies don't learn the skill as easily as others. But it's called training for a reason. So I firmly believe all children can be trained young, but it must be positive and consistent otherwise it won't work.

Both my boys and my daughter were potty trained the same month they turned 2. My youngest a month before. I like the bottomless approach. Whenever you decide to start, just be ready to fully commit. No going back and forth between diapers/pull ups/underwear.

My oldest was day & night trained 2 months before his second birthday. And my youngest has been day & night trained for a couple months now.
We always start introducing around a year & a half.

You can start at any age, I'd wait until she is showing signs that she's ready. Maybe before baths let her sit on the potty or find a way to introduce it and see where it goes from there. I don't think girls are easier than boys, I think it depends on the kid! Good luck, we too are starting the potty journey! 😁🙃

Get her a potty now so she can explore it before actually using it I find it really helps, I did it with all of my kids and I have had zero issues potty training it’s been so easy (knock on wood I’m about to start with #4 lol) I just bought my youngest his potty last week but don’t plan on putting him on it (other then when he chooses) for a couple months at least. I’ll also add my older 3 were all trained completely before 2.5 and none of them took more then a week once I started trying.
Edit I just saw your pregnant, with my older daughter when her sister was born (a week before her second birthday) I would tell her she doesn’t need diapers she’s a big girl and she started saying diapers for baby and that really encouraged her to use the potty because she “wasn’t a baby”. She was trained before her sister was 2 months old.

Every kid is different. I started my daughter straight into underwear at 2.5 and she picked it up pretty easily. But then once the defiance set in it was a major battle 😩 Then I got pregnant and she regressed big time and was peeing in her undies 5x a day at 3 years old. Finally by age 4 she was fully trained. It was a long journey. I don’t think gender has anything to do with it, it really depends on the kids. My son started at 23 months because he wanted to and now 6 months later we have him in underwear but he won’t tell us when he has to go. So we take him every 1.5-2 hours and he goes. He does well with pee but poop is a different story and he often poops in his undies. Honestly I would not start at 16 months. It takes a long time for babies to learn how to hold and release and it’ll be stressful for both of you. There’s no rush.

My child still fights me on potty training. It doesn’t matter what gender they are, it just depends how stubborn the kid is.
