Baker moms. I just made a practice cake for my daughters birthday in two weeks. Doing an ice cream theme. I was thinking to do the scoop of ice cream I would make a cake ball but as you can see it’s a disaster. Did I add to much icing to it? Would you have a different suggestion?

Or, fondant.
I made this one for my daughter a few years ago. I used white chocolate for the “ice cream”. I just made the cake ball shaped into a scoop. Put it into the fridge to chill. Then dipped the cone in white chocolate and attached the scoop. I let that chill then dipped the whole scoop. Put that on chill and then poured the white chocolate on top. Once that was dried I added the ice cream with toothpicks.
This is actually the look I’m going for! Thank you!!!
@iuiblessing2018, good luck. It really isn’t too hard. Just tedious and time for all the prepping/steps. Definitely watch a couple tutorials. It helped me!

Instead of a cake ball, put your buttercream icing in the fridge for a couple hours. Then use an ice cream scoop and scoop it out just like you would ice cream and put it on the cake. It has the exact texture and look of ice cream. Then just put some sprinkles on it if you want to.
Oh my goodness I’m going to try that! Love that idea
Ohhhh as for the cake ball I recommend crumbling cake into a bowl with frosting and mix it and form it into a ball and freeze it for an hour or 2 (basically the same way u make cake pops) once it’s done freezing place it on top of the cake and then drizzle all the frosting over it and then place the cone and sprinkles
I didn’t think of freezing it! Great idea. Thanks
@iuiblessing2018, yess freezing it is wat will make it all stay stuck together
This is what I’m going for
Try to look on youtube for tutorials. It is easier to see how it is done too. This would be cute.
White chocolate for the drip effect will work great!
I'm no baker but you did good! The center im not sure what that part is but I'd eat it! 🤣 the pink looks yummy like a donut brightness.
Haha it definitely looks like a donut. If I can’t get it right I’ll just change the theme 😂
Something like this
If you want to make a scoop on top, just add another small layer on top and frost it into a ball shape. Use a background color for base of the cake, then use a thinner icing with different color for the drip effect. If you add a layer of icing in between the layer, it will heighten the cake too.
You can also use icing to shape a ball as well but it has to be thick to hold shape.
@iuiblessing2018, was the cake fully cooled?
@icebergahead, yes but the icing was warmed so it would drip better. Maybe that’s what did it.
@iuiblessing2018, ganache is easier to use for that effect.
I would cover the whole cake with maybe white frosting and then do the drip frosting on top in pink and colorful sprinkles all over it
That is what I was thinking too! Awesome idea.
This is a test cake the main one I will. I was just trying to decide how to do the ice cream scoop cake ball or cup cake. This was the cake ball attempt.
