When. If ever? Do you put a stop to paying for plane tickets for kids to come visit you?

That’s a hard one. Maby when they are working and financially stable? But then again that’d still be hard to stop!

It is a hard one. My oldest child is almost 20. He refuses to get a job. But wants to come visit and expects me to pay for the ticket still. I’m trying to gauge if I should be rightfully annoyed. Or just buy it without discussion.

When they’re working and financially independent... not necessarily stable since that seems to come much later for most young people these days. The price might factor into things for me, too. Are we talking a $275 ticket? Or a $950 ticket? In your case, I’d be thoroughly annoyed - mostly at the entitlement. It’s one thing for you to offer it, but the expectation that you’ll do it while he also refuses to work would bug me. That being said, it’s hard too because you want to see your own child. Tough call here, but maybe a dose of tough love is needed?

I don’t even know the answer right now.

If he is working, going to school or SOMETHING to better his life, I'll pay for it. He's just layin around bein a lazy ass, as an adult, refusing to get a job....NAH. I'm not payin for him to take a vacation from the whole lotta nothing he's doin so he can bring that mess, and vibe, to my house. Nope, NO Sir. I think the think not.

I only have a 2 year old, thats a hard one but i guess she is my baby, and I would never have her pay, to come see me. Unless you know she makes more money then I do, she better be paying for me to come see her.

yeah I would feel so guilty, my mother in law paid for us to go to my sister in laws second wedding, and I felt bad but she kept saying josh is my baby, and your his wife your both my babies, we just stuck the money in an envelope for Christmas one year and josh gave it to her as we left, and we avoided her for awhile so she couldn’t try and give it back. 😂

I moved out and was married at 20. I was homesick often so I came home at least once or twice a year. My parents would help but it was never expected. Usually it would be a gift for a birthday or a holiday. My parents would get me those Southwest gift cards and if it didn't cover the cost I would just pay the difference....if he's not working then I would have a conversation with him. Maybe offer it to him to come home for a holiday.

I would probably offer to pay part of it. I’m assuming you’ll be housing and feeding him for his trip which is a huge cost. The least he can do is chip in for his ticket.
