Anyone have any ideas for how I can strengthen my ankle slowly? I don't go back to see my surgeon again for another 10 days but in the boot for another 18 days....but I can take it off and let my leg breathe

I wouldn't push for more than basic ROM (range of motion) exercises. You don't want to start resistance and strength training until you're cleared because you can undo your healing. And if it hurts, absolutely stop. I was a Rehab Director for 15 years before my current stay at home gig, and I have seen people really mess up surgeries and gave to have another operation or longer in the boot. Being patient is the hardest part.

Thanks! I've been keeping it elevated and I've done very little with it. I've wiggled my toes some so my foot doesn't fall asleep and I try to sleep on my left side to keep my weight off my bad foot

@thepfeiffwife that's the best thing you can do while it heals. It's so easy to break down that new tissue forming with even light exercise. I promise it won't be long before you start those exercises but definitely wait for the doctor to clear you, he will probably want to do another xray.

One time we had someone doing exercises on her own at home and she shifted a metal plate and was actually slicing through her own quads when she exercised. I still cringe thinking of it.

@jenx ouch...I have at least 2 screws on each side of my ankle possibly a plate which is probably why it's hard to get comfortable on my right side. I try bending my knee a little bit to help with the numbness. I'm trying not to make it worse so I've been propping my leg up with some pillows, using my walker to help me move and keep my leg off the ground (but there's a couple of bumps here and there from hopping on one leg in the bathroom), I did have another x ray on Tuesday at the post-op appointment, and change my bandages and changed out of my postop cast to my boot) 3wks in my boot and I think that's when I'll start PT
