Well it’s official we are doing remote learning in the fall. The school board voted and went along with what the superintendent wanted. I can’t even say I’m upset or mad about it cause I do think it was the right decision and we had a bit of a warning that this was how it was going to go. Even though I’m in a good position, a sahm, and very fortunate I can still say it sucks lol. What about your kids school?

They're giving us a choice here. Full time at school or live lessons at home. I'm going to keep kiddo at home. Like you I'm fortunate enough to be able to stay home.

My son is in 8th grade. He will have to go to a different middle school. It's a hybrid schedule - he will go in person on Thurs & Fri, and the rest of the week he will be doing remote learning.

My daughter is in 1st grade. We have to choose between in person, Mon-Fri (they even extended the hrs by 30 mins!) or remote learning Mon-Fri. I want to keep her home, but she really wants to go to school. I'm torn. 😥

Our Governor is supposed to make an announcement by Friday to tell us if schools are even allowed to go back in person or not. I'm hoping he says no so that I don't have to make the decision.

Even tho my daughter isn’t in school yet, I still get emails from the school district because she’s technically registered for her speech therapy services. I have a in home therapist from the school come to my house. But obviously all through emails now since Covid.

The district is doing virtual and in-school learning.

If I had to pick I’d do 100% remote learning.

So are they doing what our school called the hybrid model? 2 days in school 3 days at home? How’s speech therapy going at home? It’s hard cause we aren’t trained in these areas and we just wanna do what’s best for the kids and give them the opportunity to learn and grow! I was so looking forward to having both kids in school full time, I mean being a sahm for almost 8 years I was really looking toward to having some time for myself and maybe getting a little part time job but that’s all on hold for now. At least I can say it’s only on hold for now and someday I’ll have my freedom lol.

@ss3mom, No hybrid. I meant The choice to learn at home OR go to school. Not both. Sorry if that was unclear lol. Therapy is going OK but it was so much better when somebody would actually come here. Exactly I have no idea what I’m doing I didn’t go to school for this I’m not trained for it. My daughter is talking a whole lot more though. I feel like she would be progressing so much more if somebody would come here and not me doing it by myself. It’s better when it’s on the spot so they can correct me right away other than going back-and-forth with emails.

I was looking forward to in the winter have my kid go to playgroups for social interaction because the therapist even recommended it. Plus that means I get an hour to myself. But who knows how long this is going to last.

I feel that hard, I’m a stay at home mom too. I’m definitely looking forward to enrolling my kid in school when she can and getting a part-time job. But kiddos always come first. Sorry to hear that.

Sorry for the super long response😅😂

@sourpatchkid, no worries about the long response. I totally understand the issue with not having face to face therapy. That’s gotta be so hard for u and her! I feel my son will need additional support this year and I’m very afraid he won’t get that. But I guess we will just have to wait and see what happens. That’s all we can do at this point

We’re forced to do distance learning. We weren’t given a choice. My daughter is super bummed because she’s been looking forward to kindergarten for 2 years. She was in TK last year and we had to do the last 3 months at home and it was hard. I have a 2 year old too and it was hard to keep him quietly entertained while helping my daughter. I’m not sure how next year is gonna go.

I know we weren’t given a choice either, but honestly I’m almost relived we didn’t have a choice. And almost relived they aren’t going back. It’s too much unknown for me. I really thought I’d be gutted about the decision to do remote but I wasn’t. I think I’m my mind I knew that’s what we were going to do and I felt a little relieved. I love that your daughter was looking forward to k because my son is not. I ask him all the time if he’s excited about kindergarten and he straight up says no lol. He’s developed, or should I say restarted having separation anxiety with me, so again him staying home is ok for now but it’s going to be a mess when he does have to go to school. He’s going to be a wreck, as well as me!!

Our school is giving parents the choice to either go to classes or do remote learning.

We've chosen to do remote learning. Which means I will be homeschooling my daughter and my 2 youngest nephews. I feel blessed that I'm in a position to be able to do this during the day, since I work part time in the evenings.

My daughter, hubby and I have already recovered from covid. But we just can't justify putting our daughter in a classroom (even though we really want to) and put her at additional risk of catching it again. Even though our symptoms were considered "mild" I will attest that covid19 is nothing to mess with.

@ss3mom yes we all had covid.

I woke up on Monday the July 20th with absolutely no sense of smell or taste. I promptly went out and got tested. I called my job and quarantined myself until I received my results. On Friday I received my positive result. Hubby also received his positive result the same day. (He had to drive 90 minutes away to get a same day test, since every place near us refused to test him because at that time he didn't have symptoms and apparently me being positive wasn't a good enough reason)

My symptoms were total and I do me TOTAL loss of smell and taste (I still don't have it back fully even now) I also had fatigue, tingling in my feet and just all around felt blah.

My hubby was the sickest among us once he started developing symptoms. He had cold like symptoms with spells of vertigo and extreme fatigue. He slept for 19 to 20 hours a day

Our daughter was the only one who developed a fever. At it's highest it was 102.5°. We alerted the hospital just in case her symptoms became more severe. I didn't know if I was even allowed to stay with her if she did need to be admitted to the hospital since I was covid19 positive. (I still don't have an answer to that question either. The best I got was "probably") luckily after 12 hours her fever finally broke and she hasn't had any symptoms since.

I started prepping for the chance that we might get covid as soon as lockdown started. So I had everything I needed once we did get it.

I made bone broth, upped everyone's vitamins (zinc, vitamin c, and cod liver oil for immune support and curcumin, garlic and magnesium, for anti-inflammatory properties and to help prevent blood clots)

We also did daily detox baths alternating between dead sea salt and bentonite clay.

I also have an oximeter so I was able to keep track of everyone's blood oxygen levels.

I honestly have no idea if any of my, what hubby calls "hippie witchcraft" worked. But our symptoms did remain mild, and I did feel that I was at least fighting the damn virus with everything I could throw at it.

All 3 of us experienced covid19 in completely different ways and that was the scariest part of it. Nobody could tell us what symptoms we would have and how long or how severe our symptoms would be.

I will say that even though I had the mildest of symptoms of the 3 of us, I've never experienced anything like it I've never been sick like that before and I certainly never want to go through it again.

@watz, damn momma I’m so sorry. That’s really really scary. I think the not knowing is the worst part huh? I love your use of hippy witchcraft lol. At least, like u said, u felt like u were doing something when u don’t even know what to do!! I’m really happy it wasn’t worse for u guys and you’re all making a full recovery.

I’m in northern Illinois and we are doing in school learning 2 days a week. 3 days a week at home, with 1 day being live virtual learning for 3 hours. I think I’m okay with this. The other choice was full remote learning, but no live virtual learning—just prerecorded lessons. I chose the first option, since I am not a stay at home mom. I get why people wouldn’t want in person learning for all 5 days, but I know there will be tons of students that will fall off the grid if they haven’t already last spring. They have until august 17th for the district to come up with a final plan though, they still made us decide now.

We live in Illinois. I also teach in the district we live in. Our choices were hybrid with a few half days or fully remote. We chose fully remote for our child. As a teacher, I have had terrible anxiety about returning to the classroom the way things are now, and so I couldn’t send my own child into that. We are about to go against everything we have learned is best practice in education and school just isn’t going to be the same for kids. It wasn’t worth the health risks to us. Thankfully, I can fill in for the in person piece my daughter will be missing. We really felt like neither decision was what was best though. It was tough.

@bookwormmommy, yes we didn’t have the option of hybrid either. It was remote or cyber. I had no clue the differences but they explained them well enough for me to choose remote. Crazy times right!! Good thing your dh is home that way u can continue to teach. We need u teachers now more then ever!! It’s prob much harder for u guys teaching 1/2 from school and 1/2 from home. I can’t even imagine how much work u all do!!

We are in central IL. Our district gave the option of online or in person, 4 days per week, half days for grades K-5. My kids are going back because my husband and I both work. I am grateful for the people who are keeping their kids home, who can do so “a little more easily.” It reduces the numbers for us sending our kids back, who feel we don’t have much choice. We don’t have any family near. They will go to the babysitter in the afternoon. Monday will be remote learning for everyone. How is the babysitter gonna manage that with 12 kids there, including littles? (She has an assistant.). I’ll also point out that this is gonna cost big money for daycare. We get through it for summer, but to continue to pay so much for daycare during school is going to hurt.

Our school gave us the option for virtual or in person....& after every 9 weeks we have the option to switch if one or the other isn’t working out.

We’ll be doing virtual full time though. Like you, I’m also very fortunate to be a sahm & have nothing interfering with doing schooling at home. I feel for the working parents that need to take the in school option bc it’s all they can do. That’s a tough spot to be in right now.

@mommiesgoneabitmad, like my twin sister. She works full time and is a single parent to 3 children, one is starting his senior year, the other her Freshman year and the other who’s going into 5th grade. I spoke with her last night and her school still doesn’t have a decision. She was having a panic attack just thinking about it.

PS- my nephews in CA are doing school virtually and the schedule is pretty rigid and ridiculous, so I do understand mamas who are upset. We chose a flexible school (we do the same number of hours any public school child in Ohio does, but we do it when we want except for the live lessons with her class) schools that weren't designed to run this way definitely have some issues to work out. :(

@ss3mom just remember, all the other kinder moms are dealing with squirrels, too. :) online kinder is pretty funny, because they get a lot done and learn a lot, but those kids never sit still, someone is constantly running to the bathroom. It actually made me feel better, I thought I had an unusually squirrelly kid and found out she is quite normal.

@jenx, haha that’s so true. I got in touch with our babysitter, who’s in college for early education, to see if she could come maybe 2 days a week for an hour or two to help him. I’m waiting to hear from her once she gets her school schedule. That would be a huge help is she can do that.

We've always done public school online, so it is business as usual for us. We love it, but it's probably very different when you choose your school based on their policies versus having yoir current school forcing a lot of rules and regs on virtual schooling.

We didn’t even have the choice of going in school really. I mean they sent out a survey to see what parents would like to do but ultimately the super wanted to go with remote. Our 2 options were going the remote or cyber school. I opted for the remote because the cyber is throughout the district. Whereas remote is within the school so they will have their regular teachers ya know?

@ss3mom that makes sense. We're a very blue collar town in a metro area so unfortunately a lot of parents rely on school as childcare. I like the idea of live lessons but what they have decided yet is how many lessons will actually be live. We have to notify by Friday. I think ultimately they'll get in school a by November everyone will be remote learning again
