What are some good education books or kits to help kids learn to read. Basically I want to prepare him for when he does start school in two years . I can’t afford to send him to preschool but I don’t want him to be behind either .

Well you’d want to start with letter recognition and letter sounds first. Can he identify all the uppercase and lowercase letters by sight? And then tell you the sounds they make individually? That’s what my daughter learned in TK. Then once they have that down, they start putting letter sounds together but that’s more kindergarten level. I see your son is only 3.5 so try starting with the basics and work your way up. Look up Zoo Phonics and try that out. Maybe get some flash cards too

@nellyrojas1994 just get flash cards and practice them with him. There's this youtuber called "jada a" I think she might be of a lot of help to you

My daughter completed TK which is the same as Pre-K and they learned letter recognition and letter sounds. The kids need to identify all the uppercase and lowercase letters and know the sounds of each letter before they move on to reading skills. My daughter was in the top 3 of her class for letter recognition and sounds so she was moved on to early reading skills towards the end of the school year. In kindergarten is when they really start putting sounds together and learning to read so that’s what she’ll do this upcoming school year. She’s used ABC mouse but if I just leave her alone with it she just wants to color and draw. For the more educational stuff you have to sit and show them what to do. It’s definitely not for 2 year olds. My son has never used it. It’s complex to navigate. More for ages 4+

I’ll def look into her channel , I had been looking at hooks on phonics . I like the flashcard idea, he knows some of the sounds not all .

The Bob Books and the associated workbook. They have a pre-reading and preschool level set.

@nellyrojas1994, they cover the alphabet and letter sounds. My son really enjoyed them. I was pretty surprised because they seem super basic. They came recommended to me by his speech therapist.

Could you afford ABC mouse? It's really comprehensive.

@thatregalmujer it does, but the parent definitely has to be there to walk them through it until they are 5 or so. They have a preschool mode.

@thatregalmujer I honestly think they are moving toward being a homeschooling platform at some point

5?! Lol, def not getting it now, smh, we need independence, lol. It seems like them doing homeschooling might be a thing. They say they have curriculums, but I can't see them
