So the baby has a lip & tongue tie so last night i supplemented with formula and only had him latch a few times throughout the night, now this morning when i pumped barely any colostrum came out 😭😭😩😩 i hope my milk still comes in! I plan to have him latch every time before he eats from now on last night i was just sooo tired.

Does his latch seem alright with the tongue and lip tie?

I have to open his mouth wider because he’s not latching correctly as my second child didn’t.. i just exclusively pumped with him for 2 weeks until i got his lip & tongue tie fixed but i still want to get this one to latch

@walkmavs_mom, I would just keep trying to latch him as much as you can and hopefully that will help your milk come in, I know in the hospital when my daughter wasn’t latching right they told me to pump every 3 hours to help my milk come in.

@michellemybell09, yeah that’s what i did with my second hut last night i didn’t

My younger one had both! It’s a struggle for real 😩 Just keep trying to get him to latch. It takes 3-5 days for colostrum to change into milk, your body is doing what it’s supposed to right now. Baby’s tummy is so small right now and colostrum is high density in calories. Every 2 hours keep bringing him to breast, even if he gets just a little out.
Are you able to get the ties release in the hospital or do you have to go elsewhere for that? We didn’t know my guy had them until he was a month old and didn’t get them released closer to 10 weeks. I wish I’d know about them from the start, feeding him was such a challenge!

I’m calling the dentist that i went too for my second son because he had a lip & tongue tie as well to get it done

You are doing great. My oldest had both lip and tongue tie. Once you both figure out the latch it does get better

I’d suggest continuing to latch him and drop the formula. He doesn’t need much in the first few days of life and constant nursing is what signals your milk to come in. By giving him formula you’re sabotaging your efforts. Open his mouth for him and get him to stay on as long as possible. You can get the ties corrected around 2 weeks old I think. I did it with my son at 3 weeks. With my daughter she was 2 months because I didn’t know she had it. No one checks at the hospital. You’ll have to see a pediatric dentist.

@walkmavs_mom, that’s a great weight for 2 days old! My daughter was down to 7lbs when we left the hospital. It’s normal for babies to lose weight and there’s no need to give formula. He will get his weight up when your milk comes in.

Can you meet with the lactation consultant? My son had a tie and she was able to show me how to help him get a deeper latch.
