Let’s just keep it real...

Let’s just keep it real...

Juneteenth is the day that slaves were no longer allowed to be owned, but that didn’t mean those slaves were free from being controlled. There were categories for how black you were...like Mullato and Octaroons and downright Negro. Jim Crow was real, there were black schools and white schools once blacks were allowed to be educated. We couldn’t even drink from the same water fountains or eat in the same restaurants. Bathrooms were even black and white like urine isn’t yellow and sterile coming out of everyone! Blacks didn’t get their rights to vote for damn near 100 years after the Emancipation Proclomation. My father was 15, armed with a shotgun escorting people to register to vote and to vote. It was that level of volatile in the 1960’s. Even the most peace loving person felt the need to be armed because who knew when you would be shot at just because you were black. My Dad would be the first to tell you that blacks were getting a better K-12 education until Brown vs The Board of Education ruling desegregated schools.

So are we free from human ownership, yes. However, we are still under the control of a govt that has allowed systemic racism to continue to occur with their laws. We have a President who has shown us he’s as racist and as biased as they get and a significant chunk of his supporters have shown their true colors as well. Racism and discrimination in this country is now the worst it’s been since I’ve been alive. I was born in 1980 and it’s 2020. That says a lot...

I’m scared for my son whose going to grow up to be a black man with a disability. The disability arena is another situation in itself, but I have more fear for him because he’s black and that’s really sad. Still, he’s got a double whammy against him. There’s more work to be done, period. #Juneteenth

Everything! I'm scared for my son who will grow up to be a black man. I'm doing the only thing I can do and arm him with education, pass on my limited knowledge and encourage him to seek more, and help him to be resistant ✊🏿✊🏿 I'm with you in the struggle, stay strong and keeping fighting, give your dad my love ❤
