If you let your littles help you in the kitchen, how old were they before you let them do anything on the stove?

My 8 year old helps me cook. She uses the stove, knifes, and everything else basically, obviously I’m right there and monitoring her. My two almost three year old also helps. She drags a chair over lol

I've let me 5 year old, 4 at the time help stir mac and cheese on the stove. Hes also helped pour scrambled eggs in the pan and stir that but it scares me so unless he pushes it I dont

My 11 year old started out at 8 scrambling eggs and making grilled cheese with supervision. She cooks independently now for the most part and loves to make desserts from scratch.

Can I just say that my sister had my niece using the microwave at 5 years old and cooking on the stove top by 7. by the grace of God she was never hurt but my whole family always cringed when she bragged about this and tell her it's a horrible idea

My daughter gets overzealous in the kitchen so unless she's mixing a batter for two minutes I don't ask for her help 😂

I guess it depends on the child. Mine just turned 4 and 1 is able to use the microwave and I'm thinking about letting her try the stove. They have knives for kids that I'm looking into also. I'd hate my fears to interfere with her passions. This morning she cracked her 2 eggs, added milk, spice and got everything ready for me to cook it. I think she would love to make pancakes! Lol

@scidg3 oh definitely depends on the child my niece had full blown undiagnosed ADHD at the time and no business being in the kitchen unattended.

My thing with young children and microwaves is that they tend to heat unevenly putting the person at risk for being scolded because of the internal temperature but if you're supervising (sounds like you are) go for it 😊

@massgirl At least it was a microwave and not the stove that she is learning something was hot! My son has touched the stove hot burner, he isn't allowed in the kitchen until he is 20! Lol

I let my 7 year old stir and season with supervision. She takes it very seriously.

8 with adult supervision still.

Edit: I do let them both use the microwave by themselves.

Kaysen helps grandma when she cooks food he has been doing it since he was 3, kooper try’s and she has let him stir once last week.

but we’re not ready for him to be helping yet!

For me I don’t let them help much when it comes to the stove and hot stuff I can’t multitask like that😬😂

It was stressful at first! Having 6 little toddler hands in a bowl 😬

Letting them hold an egg at the same time for the first time. 😅
