Here’s a few examples of how difficult it is to be a black person in America...

1. Do you or have you prevented your child or children from going certain places? (ex., the mall with friends, amusement parks with friends)

2. Have you ever been in a public place and had to worry about the cops being called on you for nothing?

3. Have you ever been followed around a store or been denied service or access to a store because of your skin color?

4. Have you ever had to coach your child or children on a daily basis on how to properly interact with police to avoid them from being harmed?

5. Have you ever been denied a service because your black (ex., real estate agent, hair services)

6. Have you ever been verbally assaulted on a daily basis by people you work with or work for? And were told by your boss “sorry they don’t know any better”

7. Have you ever been told or had your child be told that they can’t wear their hair a certain way?

I can answer yes to all of these questions! I personally have experienced all of these things and worse simply because I am black.

@fivehearbeats the problem is, it's our color that's targeted. People don't care that we're honor roll students, engineers, lawyers, doctors, business owners, philanthropists... because they can't see those things, all they see is black. People will be disrespectful, and someone will say, "that's so and so," then you get all these apologies, you shouldn't have treated me that way in the first place. Keep that same energy you had and keep it pushin

Once, Oprah and couple black women were in Italy, they stopped in a store and wanted to buy a purse, and the sales rep was telling them they can't buy it because they are not Italians, so everyone with her was like, 😳 "what, we can't buy the purse? Do you not know who this is?" If a very famous black person runs into the right racist, they may be harmed just like any regular black person.

I have coached my daughter that if she ever hears anyone being mean to a person with brown skin (any minority) that I want to know immediately. That sometimes grown ups are mean to kids who aren't white and they are sneaky about it. Because I will tear a coward racist's butt up. My husband's best friend growing up was black and he had a neighbor who would say horrible things to the friend while they were playing. So messed up. His mom put an end to it.

My oldest is a boy and is about to be 16. And I don’t allow him to go anywhere without me or my mom or my sisters. I have taken off from work and agreed to drive him and his friends multiple places because I know a group of you g black men is suspicious. And my son is an honor student and had never been in any trouble. But I’m terrified for his life every time he he leaves my home to go to school or to simply walk to our neighborhood store.

And that is so devastating to me that I have experienced none of this and you have experienced it all. I have tears in my eyes while I type this. If I know a business or person who treats someone this way, I will never, ever give them my business. It is so wrong. And to have to coach your child to not stir up a crazy cop... :( Kids shouldn't have to learn that lesson.

No to all 7, it is crazy how people try to deny white privilege. I have seen store employees follow black people in the store. I could carry a giant purse in the same store and no one would ask to see it when I checked out. It's so messed up.
