Anyone in here take an anti depressant for Anxiety and have horrible withdrawals when you decided you wanted off of it?
My psychiatrist referred me to a medication if I wanna take it to help my anxiety but the withdrawal stories I’ve heard and read are horrendous.

With most meds, that affect the chemicals of your brain, you'll experience withdrawals. I took celexa and lexapro for anxiety at two different points in life. Quit both cold turkey due to the use of drugs & not caring and The celexa gave me the worst withdrawals, it felt like electrical impulses throughout my body. Nothing compared to withdrawal from xanax, ativan, valium or clonopin though.
Plus you have to take it for a while before you'll have withdrawals like I did, I was on the celexa for a couple of years. You don't just decide you want off, a doctor will usually wean you down if you ever do get off though..

Yes! I used to take anti depressants years ago. I used to take Zoloft and then Effexor. I don’t remember which one was the one I stopped taking for good that time but my withdrawals were bad. It lasted for me about a month. I felt like I had the flu. A really bad headache almost fever like. I can’t remember if I had any body aches but it was the headache that was really bad. Once the withdrawals went away then I felt ok again.

If I miss one day of my effexor I feel it. Nausea, body aches, headache.

I stopped taking celexa for about six months last year. I was only taking 15 mg daily and slowly reduced it every two weeks. Ultimately I went back to 10 mg.
NEVER stop taking any kind of antidepressant cold turkey that's when you will experience the most extreme withdrawal symptoms. Remember everyone handles everything differently, I would seriously suggest not looking up medication on the internet and just have open communication with your doctor through the process.

Agree, don't stop cold turkey for sure!

I agree with this entirely. If you go into it with the wrong mindset and look for problems ahead of time on the internet you are not giving the med a chance to truly work.

it’s hard when my anxiety causes me to think of the worse possible scenario but I know I can’t do it alone anymore. I gotta try something.
Heather·
What's the medication?
Lilly Viola ··
Mirtazapine/Remeron.

Everyone reacts differently. I’ve been on many antidepressants over the years and not a single one gave me any withdrawal symptoms. But it is recommended to ease off certain ones.

@bodybycheetos, yes you just reminded me that I also had the nausea as well. I don’t remember how long it lasted but it was terrible.
