This situation is terrible, no doubt about that. Any life taken like this is wrong and deserves to be punished.. The “police cannot be trusted” at the bottom of this is so incredibly concerning to me though. There are absolutely some bad seeds out there. There are in every field. Politicians, police officers, CEO’s, etc. will abuse power in different ways when they are crappy people. However, we cannot be discrediting all of the good ones out there. This sends the message that “all police is bad”... I work with children who are living in dangerous, poverty stricken neighborhoods.. So many of them are taught to not trust and be afraid of police officers and others in positions of power... but what about when they actually need help? Will they be too afraid to go to ANY police officer? That worries me. 😔
I have 3 police officers in my family, I agree not ALL of them are bad but ALOT of them are. It’s sad that I’ll eventually have to have a conversation with my own children on this because we are mixed with black, I fear for my children’s lives & we shouldn’t have too because their job is to protect us all but when you see so many stories on police killing black people.. it scares me! So honestly I have to also agree with these black parents teaching their children these things, you can’t blame them.
@raisingbabes, Yes, I agree that it’s important to teach your children all of the facts, and it can be hard to know who you can and can’t trust. I don’t have the same experiences as you, personally, but my hope is that someday our children can grow up in a world where there is hope and peace. Though it may be unrealistic, sadly, but the more people who do their part, the closer we can be to that.
