I feel like my lip is still swollen. It hurts a little. Is this still consider a cold sore?

My was like that. It got all ugly and had crust all over. It started itching and burning then the next day my lip was swollen. Doctor gave antibiotics and an ointment but it wasent helping I then started applying peroxide and it dried it. But now it’s swollen again.
@mommy2.10 Sounds like you do have the simplex 1. Antibiotics will not help with a virus. Your Dr should have given you an antiviral. Valtrex is the most common and they have it in generic form also. Surprised at your doctor. Carmex has a topical analgesic in it that will help calm the discomfort and it will apply moisture while giving you some relief until it heals. Most people who get it, get it in childhood from an adoring adult relative. Sorry you are dealing with this. Is it the first time? Or have you had them before? If you get them often you should really get the antiviral as it can reduce the shedding. Unfortunately it can still be passed even when you don't have a boil present. Although it's less likely. Hope this information helps. I know a few people who have them and though I've never had one personally I know it's difficult and super uncomfortable physically and emotionally to think about. But with the right precautions and knowledge you can help yourself and keep your son safe. Never share the same toothpaste, utensils, and don't let him drink after you or kiss you on the mouth. @xryztalroze, yes this is my first time. This is all new to me. I believe somebody took a sip from my straw at my in laws house cuz I left my drink at the table and then my lip started to get sooo itchy and hot. Thank you for your info!!
A true cold sore is herpes type 1. And it is spreadable by kissing, sharing utensils, or cups. Something like 80% of the population has it sadly by age 10. Whatever you do don't kiss your babies until it is gone and even then never on the mouth. It can shed even when asymptomatic. Get Carmex lip balm. It will help with the discomfort and ask your PCP about it as taking anti viral can help shorten the cycle and reduce the number of occurrences. Be careful with intimacy with your partner also in other ways.... The only real way to know if it is in fact a true cold sore is to have it tested. Calm your Dr and ask about this.
No do not pop a cold sore it can make it spread if you do it.

If it is a fever blister then you have no worries. Either way, hope you feel better fast. They pic was blurry but cold sore typically get really ugly and crust over, are painful, and there are symptoms before they show up like tingling or itching of the area.
