So I asked my OB to do a membrane sweep on Monday to see if I can get my body to go into labor on it’s own so I don’t have to be induced on the 21st. I’m planning on doing a natural birth (hopefully) and I know the pitocin slows things down and makes the contractions worse. Do the sweeps actually work? I’ve never had one before so I don’t know what to expect. If it works, how long does it take before you go into labor? 🤔🤔

Both of mine "worked" I think. My first baby came 3 days after the sweep and my second came almost a week after... I guess it could have been coincidence too. 🤷♀️

I think from what I’ve heard if labor doesn’t start within 48-72 hours the sweep was unsuccessful

yes! That's what I heard too! But then i always eventually did go into labour before my next doctors appointment, so in a way the sweeps did work I think.

2nd baby I went into labor 3 days later. 4th baby it didn't work

Sweeps didn’t do anything for me with my first. I went to 41 weeks and was induced when my water started to leak and labor wasn’t starting. However! My induction with him was faster than my “natural” birth with my second (meaning I didn’t need medical intervention like pitocin but I got the epidural both times) my first labor was 8 hours and my second labor was 16 hours

My Dr told me they will do a membrain sweep at my 39 week appt if I don't go into labor before then. I've never had that done
