As a child who was basically "unschooled" until 6th grade...then went on to have no academic problems in Jr high, HS, Undergrad, or Masters....

Letting your kid enjoy this time off is important. 2 months before the end of the year, lets be honest, they've already checked out. Don't push school.. It probably won't make any difference down the road anyway.

Many children will thrive on the normalcy of continuing “school” at home. School closing was very abrupt and they didn’t get their normal end-of-year closure.

What’s your Masters in? I have one also, and I think it’s cool to see other women on here with advanced degrees 🙌

Also, you sound like you were a born learner, so it’s no wonder you succeeded in life! If you feel like sharing, I’d love to hear more about your unschooling experience.

@two.tiny.texans, that is so freaking cool! I think there are definite pluses to this style of education, but for us being working parents and having an only child, traditional schooling is the way to go. My sweetie is excelling in school and adores his teacher and classmates. That social aspect is important for him. If we lived a different lifestyle though, I’d be highly interested in homeschooling or unschooling!

@two.tiny.texans, I do! Our agency provides mental health services for Medicaid and indigent, the folks that get overlooked and marginalized all the time. So it does feel like a noble calling. It can be super stressful, but also amazing for the human connections we make!

I am so glad you enjoy working with that group. They need representation ❤

We will be doing traditional school for our boys as well.

Yikes why would your parents keep you from school? I would never do that to my kids! And my daughter had more than 2 months left, she had 3 months, and she definitely wasn’t “checked out”. She loves school and this is hard for all of us.

Learning is fun! I think structure and routine is important.

Kids can fully enjoy this time and also be educated. I can’t imagine they’d be really enjoying themselves if they weren’t being educated in some sense

I think 95% of the people complaining about the schools closing are just annoyed they have to deal with their own kids. 🐸☕

How did you have no schooling for that long?

professor.hashbrown

Bean

Because Texas is a state where you don't have to prove anything for homeschool lol. You don't even have to register anywhere (at least back then)

Lol. I mean 2 months out of a childhood doesn't make a difference overall. Of course education matters
