Yeah i think its the mucus buildup that makes them gag even though they're not coughing at the time.

If you go to a&e and you're worried he's dehydrated then what they'll do is a water challenge which you can do at home too. Mix water and apple juice in a cup and offer him 5ml of that every 5 minutes. If he is still bringing that up then its best to pop into a&e xx
