Who knew we’d disagree over raising a puppy more then parenting the kids? 🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️🤦🏼‍♀️. Puppy will come to us crate trainedish. I’m firmly in the crate trained camp. My husband is firmly in the not crate training camp. I will be the one taking him out, bell training him and taking him to obedience classes. I so think I should win this one. Plus everyone I know recommends crate training...especially when potty training. *sigh*

I was against crate training at first, but we have 4 dogs, at first trying to get the oldest 2 to get in the loop was difficult, but now they love their crates they know that is their space, they all have their own blankets and toys. Having my Akita in the crate broke her of her food aggression as well, so now my daughter can help me feed them without me worrying she will get bit.

My golden retriever loves her crate. She prefers that we keep a blanket over it also. When I take the blanket off to wash it, she looks scared, like Mom, what are you doing??? She just goes and gets in it herself when she wants to and sleeps in it at night. If I didn’t keep her crated when I can’t watch her, she’d chew up everything in the house.

Crate training is great if you know how to do it the right way. Especially when you have little ones. Gives the pup a safe space that is only for them to go in when they want to. Or for potty training during the night.

Honestly I basically plan to just take him with me everywhere unless it’s date night 🤷🏼‍♀️😂. Mainly because of the short stature cat.

@squishymommy1 my uncle's gf thinks a crate is used for keeping her poor dogs in all day long and wonders why they are wild when they do get out.

My boys used to sleep in theirs at night but that went out the window on dhs tdy and I was too scared to sleep alone 🤣 I'm sure they'd go back if I tried but I never did.

@bodybycheetos, honestly I don’t mind if he sleeps with us. The cats are NOT allowed in our room and we keep our door shut. But what my sister said really makes sense about crate training during potty training and really while he’s a puppy in general. Mainly because of the kitties and he’s not a large breed.

I crate trained my husky and it was the best decision made. I’ll even leave the door open now and she just knows. Once we turn off the tv and shut off the lights before bed, she immediately goes right into it and lays down. I left the door open the whole night one night to see what she would do and she stayed in it. She goes in there to get away for a bit to. No harm in it at all as long as they aren’t locked up all day.

I forgot to shut the door one day and was amazed my dog never went out till I got him to go outside 🤣. I was like you're such a good boy

@raisinglittlegamers, right! With her being a husky, they act like they’re dumb but so super smart and mischievous. So I was like “there’s no way you didn’t get into anything...” I checked everything and not a single thing was misplaced lol

My sister whose trained a lot of dogs said it was the best idea for potty training them. Especially at night when there’s no direct supervision. I’m a helicopter mom and that’s not going to change with a puppy 😂😂😂😂

Crate training is great especially when done correctly. My dog sleeps in his crate. He'll also go in his crate to wind down and get away from the kids 🤣

She crate trains before they go home. Well starts the process anyways. Honestly it’s either he sleeps in our room 100% of the time or we have a crate. I can’t leave a tiny puppy to fend for himself against 3 adult males cats at night 🤷🏼‍♀️

@squishymommy1

I'm not going to lie I tried to let my dog sleep in my bed... He just wanted to wrestle the cat all night... Like nope. To the crate you go. It also came in handy because my dog has some major anxiety issues 😬

@raisinglittlegamers, the little cat. The dwarf is pretty aggressive at night. He’s the alpha cat and night time is when he asserts his domination lol

Tell him the 2 very experienced vet techs on your mom app agree with u 100% crate training is great! It’s not just about keeping the dog locked up in the crate for periods of time but it’s the dogs security blanket. It should be a place the dog love to be in. Where the dog can go to “get away” from the craziness of the house. Somewhere he or she is very very comfortable. It can be calming for them in their if training with the crate is done properly. Which I can assume u will do it properly!! Good luck and I stand behind u on this one! U can have him talk to me hahahahaha

I am determined and driven for success FAILURE isn't an option for me. I potty trained my oldest at 9 months old. My 2 middle son's were more difficult they were between 18 months and 2 years old. My baby boy was showing interest in potty training, I decided to buy him a potty chair. Potty training tips 1.) Don't rush your child 2.)Don't yell at your child 3.) Don't punish your child for having accidents 4.) Don't give you child candy 5.) Don't compare other children to your child 6.) Do praise your child 7.) Clap your hands when your child goes to the potty. 8.)Take your child every 15-30 minutes to the potty 9.)Don't criticize your child 10.) I don't recommend pull ups but I don't bash mothers who decided to use them. 11.) Remember potty training is not taught in one day you have to be determined to potty train your child.
