I gave him the best care I could and I think* he’s going to make it! 😭❤️

Although he looks rough, I think he’s doing so much better.

I kept him in a dark, quite room for the best part of four days. Finally felt like he could handle a water change. I added a snail to help keep the tank clean, added a sponge to his filter to help the water come out less strong, and added some real plants to help break down waste.

He has been eating just fine with a healthy appetite! He’s still a bit slow, but that’s to be expected.

With his tail being torn off, risk of infection is high so I need to keep the tank as clean as possible.

I bought him some special leaves from Thailand to put in his water to help grow his fins back. Those should arrive tomorrow!

Awwwww poor baby!!! Seeing him hurts my heart but I'm glad he is doing better! He probably wouldn't have made it if he didn't have you as an owner.

I love the amount of care you’re putting into him. We have fish at my office and some of them needed some special care. One got a pebble lodged in its mouth so someone had to pull it out, which was hard given how slippery fish are, how small this one was, and having to be take him out of the water. Then almost the entire tank got some sickness and my coworkers nursed them all back to health. I have a new appreciation for fish because of all this and it really warmed my heart to read your post tonight.

I really take pet care seriously. I figure, I at least have to try my best.

After joining that Facebook group I’ve mentioned above though, now I want a “ sorority tank” but multiple female bettas! Hahaha.

That’s so scary though! I know a lot of people would just be like, “welp🤷🏼‍♀️”, but that’s so good to hear they tried so hard! ❤️

Can I ask what kind of plant you added? My daughter has a beta and she feeds him sometimes ( I do the rest of the time lol) when she does she adds too much food and I've found that his water gets dirty faster before my husband can get to it again

@flamingfiremom, this is some of what I did.

And since then I’ve gotten a new, better filter. And changed his food completely- I think the new, expensive, better quality food really helped a lot.

I guess they are like lizards- if a lizard’s tail gets cut off, it will regenerate it.

I just have to make sure that I keep the tank clean, cause risk of infections could cause them to stop growing back.
