My bf is moments away from accepting a job 8 hours away. We need to move rather quickly. I have never moved out of my county, let alone state. Please flood me with checklists and tips! I'm at a loss, I'm very overwhelmed. We have about a 6 week time frame. Leaving on vaca for a week in 2 days and starting my next semester on Monday. (On top of ft job) My head is spinning and my top priority is housing so that's all I can think of. We know no one in the state, so we're going in blind. I'd also like to make this as smooth of a transition as possible. We will have little to no help, so just us and our toddler. Any help is appreciated.
*If you've moved out of NY (LI) or east coast, did you hire a company? A truck? If so, who.

I used those uhaul boxes to move up and down the east coast. All I had to do was pack it at my convenience and then schedule a pickup. Ask the people where your boyfriend is working with about the area. Maybe join a local mommy group to get some insight as well. I lived in New England all my life and moved south when my husband (at the time) was stationed down that way. My biggest tip is to be VERY prepared for a culture shock. Be opened minded to the change save money so you can explore your new surroundings without any financial fear that will certainly help with the transition.

So we moved from ok to Florida that’s a 18 hr drive my husband drove the moving truck (Penske)we all packed and the kids I have 3 lol switched between me and his truck I also had a ferret but we took lots of breaks and slept of course but we didn’t see the house first his boss showed us on face time.. but it took us three days but we sold practically everything we had to get money and then started fresh because it’s just stuff we move like once a year we’re about to do it again it’s not that bad I think we used at least 500$ or more on gas 😩

Thanks ladies I'll look into all of this. I'm still in shock, knew it was a possibility but we've been waiting on something for so long I felt like it would never happen. Haven't even thought how to move our animals 🤦🏼♀️
Ugh, I hate moving lol
Our problem is it's a coastal vacation town and there's an overabundance of seasonal housing. But we can't go too far inland bc of commute. We spoke with his future employer who is trying to help us with information and realtors.

My husband actually left a little before I did to start his job and look at places after work. We put all of our stuff in storage and I went and visited with my family for a couple of weeks during this time and found the places for him to go look at. Once we found a place we posted what we needed moved on uship and people bid on the job. A couple of guys did it in a couple of days. I set up all utilities via phone and took a three day drive with my daughter and dog to join my husband.
