I called the pediatricians office today to get some advice on the baby’s reflux. It was recommended to have him either sleep in a swing at night or create an incline in his bassinet to help keep the reflux at bay. But I’m worried about his head slouching to the side and cutting off his airways!

Have you tried keeping him upright for 30-60mins after a feeding? With my first the incline didn’t work but keeping her upright, she then could lay flat and no more spit up.

@kellynicole have you tried reading a kindle? That's my go-to when breastfeeding. It keeps me awake.

ugh that sucks.. I go on my phone too but it gets really irritating with all the same posts etc. I find reading a book more engaging.

I have a small blanket rolled under Ellie’s bassinet mattress and we did the same for Lily she sleeps better

That’s what was recommended i do but the bassinet mattress is this flimsy little thing

I think they make wedges that go under the bed sheet that have a slight incline but I'd do your own research if they're safe. I didn't really think swings were considered safe for sleeping unsupervised..

@nothingtoseehere, yeah I’ll have to get one of these for when i move him to the crib! Would prob be too big for his bassinet

oops missed the part where you said bassinet. When I looked this one up on Walmart they actually had a bassinet sized one too.

My baby has been sleeping in a swing almost all his life. Ya I know it's not safe etc etc but he had reflux so bad that no formula worked and he literally stopped breathing twice choking on phlegm and spit up. He also had to be tightly swaddled to sleep so an elevated mattress would of caused him to not be safe if he rolled or what not. It worked wonders but now I can't get him out of the swing to sleep in or on anything else. So there's a down side to it as well

What kind of swing?

just a graco battery swing that went front to back with a 5 point harness. I bought re chargeable batteries and the charger and they have been going since my daughter was born. So them I'm not buying a million batteries and can take it anywhere

We propped up our bassinet on one side down on the floor because of the flimsy mattress. Ours was a rocking bassinet so I actually used some foam pieces that were made to secure a canoe to a car roof but you could use books or something. I actually did the same for her crib eventually using some wedge shoes as risers 😂

@kellynicole How did you know he had reflux. I’m curious if that’s what is going on with my little one

@kellynicole, he’s spitting up a lot and when he does he screams bloody murder and he won’t lay flat so he’s always laying on my stomach which means I get no sleep. Also the last few days he’s been coughing and gagging before and during and after feedings.

@harrallove, definitely reflux based on those symptoms

Baby P will be 6 months on the 15th, has been given the go to start solids since 4 months old due to his reflux but I was adamant about waiting until 6 months. We’ve done all the suggestions to help with his reflux due to my decision to not start him at 4 months. Anyway, come December 15th, we are starting!! I’ve done veggies first in the past. How have you started? Or how will you start? Thanks!
