Been getting a lot of unwanted opinions on adopting our cat right before our newborn is due. Everyone keeps asking the question what are you gunna do when that cat smothers your baby. First of all my newborn will NEVER be unsupervised to the point of an animal being able to smother him. Secondly, that’s a very morbid and unnecessary question to ask a expecting mother. Can some of you ladies please share your experiences with cats and newborns. And no our cat will not be allowed in the bedroom with the baby sleeping during naps or through the night.

My cat was already over 1 years old when I had my youngest and everyone kept saying this.
My cat really only likes me first of all
Second of all I don't leave my children unsupervised with ANY animal
And third my cat sleeping next to my child is not going to harm her...

@nerdymommyplus2 that's crazy ! The cat breathing by baby is not a cause for sids . But then again they say bumper pads on cribs are a factor . Everything always contradicts ...

There is actually only one documented case of a cat suffocating a baby in 2000 in the UK. It was later proven false. The baby had actually died of SIDS. The other documentations are from the 1900s.
I'm not saying it's not possible but like I said always supervise children. With ANY animal. Especially infants

I adopted 4 small cats before my youngest was born. Neither my oldest nor baby were ever left unattended with them. The cats wanted absolutely nothing to do with them.

That'll be the day when my cat gets anywhere near the baby. Babies are unpredictable and noisy... cats don't like that generally lol my cat stays away. 😂

Right lol. I've caught my cat napping in my oldest lap once while she was playing Minecraft. But my oldest is very quiet and gentle. If my 3 year old comes near her she takes off running 😂
She usually hides in the bathroom and sunbathes in her corner

Just don’t let the cat sniff around it’s mouth other then that I wouldn’t worry when my first was little I came upstairs I lived with someone at the time and the cat was laying on top of her I smacked that cat across the room so hard 😩😂
