At what age/point do you consider speech therapy? My step daughter is 3 years old and I feel like she is behind in the speech department. She mumbles and babbles more than she actually says clear understandable words. 80% of the time we don’t understand what she’s saying. My daughter is 2 months older than her and she’s very advanced so I don’t have anything to compare (I know you can’t compare kids)

My daughter is 2y9m and has been in speech therapy for about 3 months now. I suggest trying to get a referral asap

He started speech over the summer. He had the same issue. He talks all the time but people have a hard time understanding him. The speech therapist actually said his issue is that he is too smart, haha, and his vocabulary is advanced for a 3 year old so he'll skip or twist syllables around, making him hard to understand because most three year olds aren't using 4-5 syllable words.

She’s very smart and understands everything you say to her and she understands everything she says or tries to say. Like my daughter says certain words a little funny like she calls mustard mooshturd 🤣 but she speaks so clearly. But she was also singing songs at 6months old and speaking in full sentences by just a little over 1 1/2.

My son just turned 3 and is the same way, but hes been trying more and saying a little more. However, with my son he is do bright, can understand everything, just je wont talk really.

I believe its bc he is being lazy.

Im about to start up speech therapy for him as soon as I get the number from his pedi.

Sounds like she’s delayed. I highly recommend what massgirl suggested. You don’t need a referral. It can also be free through your insurance. I had mine in therapy at 18 months and he still receives services. He didn’t start talking intelligibly until around 4 years old and he can still be very hard to understand because he still doesn’t have all his speech sounds.

Call your local early intervention department and have her evaluated. If they won't do it because she's already 3 ask for info on local developmental specialist that can evaluate her independently. It's not too late for her to catch up but from what you said I would be concerned

My 7 year old is still in speech for announciation

I talk fast and because of that she would slur her words and letters together plus she had trouble making some of the sounds 🤦. They expect her to graduate next year.

She started at 3.5

Her doctor refused to listen to me so I went through the school system and got her help.

@mommyandstepmommy, well she talks. It’s just nobody understands her most of the time. She’s got a very good understanding of everything it’s literally just her speech that I’m a little confused about

I’ve posted about my defiant toddler many times before but I’m really at a loss now. She deliberately disobeys. Like, she knows what “no” means and if she’s doing something she knows she’s not supposed to I can ask “do you want to go in timeout?” And she’ll answer “no” and SOMETIMES stop.. I can’t take her anywhere cause she refuses to listen. She runs wild, screams, throws tantrums etc. At home she’s just as bad and absolutely nothing I do or say helps. Timeout doesn’t work, hand poppings don’t work, a pop on the butt doesn’t work, I’ve tried getting down to her level and calmly explaining things or trying to make sure she knows that I understand her emotions and things like that but I’m not even kidding when I say nothing works with her. I’m constantly telling her no and even though she knows she’s going to get into trouble she will do it anyways and then cream this blood curdling scream when she does get in trouble. I’ve raided Pinterest for days, write everything down, tried everything I found... idk what else to do. Everyone keeps telling me it’s “terrible twos” or “she’s just strong willed” or that it’s normal for her age and all of that might be true but there’s gotta be some kind of something that will help me teach her to listen to me and such.

Sometimes you know your body better than everyone else. Not every woman will produce high levels of hcg throughout pregnancy some it can take weeks some it can take months don’t trust a blood test don’t trust a urine test trust your heart and when you know it’s times it’s time this doctor was not a gynecologist so he did not give me a quantitative blood test to actually see what my hcg level is at I hope this helps some of you ladies who just feel like giving up and stop testing because of what everyone else thinks or what a doctor tells you trust your body you know your body better than a blood test and a pee test and god will lead you to the right path
