If you don't like guns and are ignorant about them because you live in a place where they are apparently non-existent then that is on you, but I will keep my piece of mind knowing I have the means to protect myself and my family if I needed to.

@bodybycheetos I think it is just different cultural and social norms. It seems so absurd to us because it is not the society we live it. I have never felt the need to have a weapon for protection because violence and home invasion is rare. That being said, domestic violence is a big issue. I wonder how many more deaths there would be in Australia if guns were readily available to the public. It seems like there is more violence and higher death rates in America (thus the need for protection), because guns are widely available. I think the case of the laws in Australia demonstrate that violent crime and gun availability are not mutually exclusive issues.
