So my youngest isn't really verbal. Very Rarely says mama, i know he's very independent and my doc said to wait til he's at least 1.5 yo but he's very early for everything else in milestones so this makes me stress so much. What's the latest y'all's lo started speaking?

My son didn’t start talking until a month after his 2nd birth day.

I noticed the same with mine and had him in early intervention for speech at 18 months. He is still delayed. it is a great decision to consider (I’m a little biased since I’m about to get my masters in speech therapy though lol). May even be free through your insurance. Nothing wrong with a simple evaluation :)

Something that reassured me when my oldest was learning to talk and I was concerned is that it’s less important how many words he has and it’s more important that he’s consistently gaining. It’s okay to gain words slowly. What’s more troublesome is to not gain them at all or loose them.

@humblewarriormama will def look into that. Did he do any sounds at all? My son does this sound where when you close your teeth together and push your tongue against your teeth and blow out in place of where i feel a word would go. I guess he uses that to express himself.

@gorjess.mommy, he had 5 regular words and 5 occasional words at his 18 month check up. Between 18 months and 2 years he lost all his words but could do animal noises. We used a lot of sign language as well as nonverbal gestures, so he could communicate well. Just not speak.

I would say that he didn’t start to speak well and be understood by most people until his 3rd birthday. That took a lot of work with speech once a week. I attended every session and whatever they did that week, we worked on 24/7. He also was in OT once a week for eating and oral motor stuff.

My youngest son was 2 last Friday. He was born early, but I worried about his speech. The last few days, he's saying everything I ask him to. I worried about his older brother who is only 10 and a half months older but once he started he hasn't shut up since. They all develop at their own pace. Try not to worry xx

My daughter is 2.5 and maybe and I mean maybe says 10 words total. She's been in speech therapy for about 2 months now.

My son was ahead on most things but still didn’t start talking until he turned two. Now he’s almost 3 and still a little hard to understand but using words like “fantastic” and “terrific”.

Don't worry about it. If he's early on his other milestones he's probably just focusing on mastering those. His brain can only processes so many new things at a time. I wouldn't worry about it until he's closer to two.

Ugh thanks so much. My so said maybe he feels that our oldest is doing his talking mostly for him and when i try to teach him new words he just looks at me laughing lmao

@gorjess.mommy yes this also happens when there are older siblings involved. Just try to encourage him slowly and talk to the oldest about interrupting his brother. Also reading helps a ton. Read a story every night. Find local play groups for children his age.
