My daughter wants to watch Dumbo and I don’t remember the original well. We are highly against circuses in real life. Does the movie portray the circus in a negative light? I’m cool with watching it as long as the moral is “the circus is bad.”

Yes, the mom is chained in the circus and dumbo is taunted for his big ears. The only ok part is when she rocks him in her trunk and sings a lullaby to him.

It’s the single most saddest Disney movie I have ever seen. We don’t do animals circus’s for the same reason. I haven’t seen dumbo in SO long.

I read dumbo to my daughter and it is so sad. I haven't seen the movie but the book is pretty fuc*ked up. 🙁

Spoiler alert:
In the new Dumbo, he is reunited with his mother and they are both taken back to the jungle they came from. It’s a wonderful ending compared to the original movie.
I really enjoyed the new movie. And it does have the moral of not using animals to make money. The kids help drive that, and eventually the adults listen to their wisdom. I think you would enjoy the 2019 Dumbo (plus, he’s the cutest CGI elephant!)
