Asking for a friend, LITERALLY because she doesn’t have an account on here. She’s 7 weeks pregnant and today at her prenatal appointment they did a blood test to test for HIV/AIDS. There was no reason for them to do that. Anyone know why?
Yes the test stds some you can’t have nature birth with like herpes or the baby may need special testing or treatments after delivery
Totally normal, it’s actually a law in most states for safety reasons. I told the docs I had a test since me and my hubs were together, hadn’t been with anyone else since him and neither has he, and they still said it was required for my state even though I was clean two years ago 🤷🏻♀️ just for everyone’s safety!
They always do. I just got mine done last week
It’s normal. They do it for every pregnancy
Yup they do a full STD screen. Mine even does a follow up panel closer to delivery.
Yes I've got tested for hiv/aids on all my blood work I ever had I used to look and that would definitely be on there and its standard and completely normal .

They do not test for herpes and you can have a natural birth on antiviral medication just like hiv. If you were to have an outbreak too close to delivery they will do a cesarean. Please don’t assume that herpes is included in an early pregnancy panel.
@cfjones913, damn I didn’t know you was a dr excuse tf outa my opinion because how they gonna know you need a csection if they don’t test lol they not gonna wait till the last minute and 👀 look at your vagina for a outbreak lol some females may not know this my dr tested me for everything to be prepared!
@imback, I’m not a doctor, I am a phlebotomist though to which I credit most of my knowledge on the subject. I also wasn’t trying to be mean but didn’t want your opinion to be spread as fact. It is a huge misconception that even when someone says they are tested for “everything” that they are tested for herpes because they are not. Herpes is a dormant virus that will most often test negative without an active outbreak. You have to specifically ask for it and even then a negative result may be inaccurate. A diagnosis is best made with a viral swab taken from a lesion during an outbreak. A woman does not need to be looked at to know she is having an outbreak, it is painful. A woman who carries the herpes virus can deliver without concern as long as she is not having an outbreak. A woman who knows she carries the virus will be on antiviral medication indefinitely, starting at 34-36 weeks or if preterm labor is threatened. They do not automatically do a c-section, the woman says when her last outbreak was and the doctor looks for lesions if antivirals are not used.
THey normally test for that with a papsmear or blood work with every pregnancy if they don’t then that’s a terrible doctor.. Lol
Like I said, I remember them doing blood work on me both pregnancies but I don’t remember them straight up pin pointing testing for aids.
@bbgirlmama, oh they test for everything hiv aids stds etc most the time they are supposed to give u ur results at ur next appointment and let u know if everything was negative or not ..
@bbgirlmama they test for STDs with every pregnancy.
@beetlejuice_beetlejuice_beetlejuice, I remember them checking for yeast infections early on

Sometimes you know your body better than everyone else. Not every woman will produce high levels of hcg throughout pregnancy some it can take weeks some it can take months don’t trust a blood test don’t trust a urine test trust your heart and when you know it’s times it’s time this doctor was not a gynecologist so he did not give me a quantitative blood test to actually see what my hcg level is at I hope this helps some of you ladies who just feel like giving up and stop testing because of what ...

Thought there was a line ready to pop up on yesterday’s test 😑 today’s test determined THAT was a lie.
Today’s test ➡️ yesterday’s test.
