So I really want to be a stay at home mom..my husband makes $100k a year, so it's not like we can't afford it if we changed our habits, but he wants me to keep working so we can make even more money. I miss my baby throughout the day and hate that someone else is raising him for 10 hours a day five times a week. He has expensive habits and doesn't want to downsize so I can stay home. It makes me so resentful and angry inside. Like I rather know my baby is being cared for by his mom and not in daycare than go on an expensive cruise vacation. His mom (who he listens to more than me) has this view that women should be working and it's lazy to stay at home and she's always lecturing me when I express my desire to stay home.
SAHMs: How did you convince your husband to let you stop working?
Mandy·
There was no convincing. We had the discussion and came to an agreement before we had kids. Would you be saving anything by him not being in daycare and you not working
Lauren··
Nope. Not unless we had two kids, then it wouldn't be cost effective. But we don't want to have another until our firstborn is about two or so.
Mandy··
if your income is still something that you guys rely on to sustain your lifestyle then I can see why he would want you to keep working. Idk what he does for work or where you live but 6 figures can put you in upper middle class or just barely making ends meet depending where you live. If you're out of work for 6 years or more that can certainly put you behind. Can you work part time
Heather·
If you want to stop, just stop. It's your life too girl.

But think of the turmoil it will cause in her marriage if she just up and quits.

I really didn't convince my husband it was more of my check would probably cover daycare for our kids and we talked about this before having kids that I probably would like to stay home and take care of them so that at least one parent can care for them. I do odd jobs to get extra money here and there right now I'm currently babysitting so I am still get to take care of my kids and I'm making money.

We worked out pricing for daycare. It was almost as much as I would be making weekly. At that point it wasn't worth it for us. Plus the cdc always has gross sicknesses going through it and I would've had to miss work if my kid got sick. Then what happens if we get sick also? Even if the kid isn't there we would still have to pay for the spot. Once my youngest starts school I plan to get a part time job. Before having kids my paycheck was just to play with anyways so we weren't missing out on anything.

Well he is wrong stay at home is harder work!! Mentally physically that being said you will probably regret it after a while lol maybe just down size your job to part time weekends so you both can be happy and you don’t loose your sanity lol

There was no convincing. It was more a mutual thing. When my maternity leave was 2 wks from ending he asked me how I was feeling about going back to work & I told him I didn’t feel good about it. He didn’t either. He wanted our kids to be raised by a parent & not a stranger.
I’d tell your husband how it’s making you feel. Honesty & open communication is needed so he can see where you’re at & how it’s affecting you emotionally & mentally.

I didn’t have to convince him , he had told me before I even had our baby that I would stay home with the baby and he’d take care of uss & I’m so glad cause I could bond with her ! Though I do plan to go back to work atleast till she is 8 months but my husband is talking me out of that one .
Heather·
@mhbb29 you're right. I'd just talk to him about it first & try to convince him that you'll be happier! @wallflowerrose
Your Worst Nightmare 😘·
My husband wanted me to quit my job and plus make no sense to work a job to get 100$ just to give it to daycare🤷🏼♀️

Well at first I was working while pregnant going to school full time I told him I'll stop once I get enough so he wouldn't have to pay my 75 each month I did that until I almost miscarried my boss wouldn't let me take breaks and I would carry big jugs of tea and yes she knew I was pregnant just didn't care.so than I finished school and finished externship not even three weeks ago . and he told me just to be a stay at home mom he don't want anyone watching his daughter when she is born and doesn't want me rushing back to work I low key want to go back as soon as I can but I don't want a stranger raising my child while I work but soon as I can on going back .

I didnt have to convince my husband. It was what we both wanted for our kids. We made the choice before we even had any children

Honestly I didn’t have to convince him. My husband is cheap and is always crunching numbers. It would’ve cost us more for me to go to work and I’d literally be paying for daycare. It just didn’t make sense. Also he didn’t want anyone else with our kids. Maybe if you give him a pro and con list that would help him understand?

You can always make money.. but you can’t always spend this time with your kids. I’d put it that way. He’s being entirely selfish.

Put it in cost perspective, how much you bring home compared to how much goes into daycare, plus gas going to work and any additional costs like clothing upkeep (if its business attire, you'll be spending a lot a year). Personally I bring in $600 after daycare but I go for the social interaction. I also love my job.
Do you love your job? Can you talk to him and tell him your just not happy and havent been?
