Does anyone here have experience with being prescribed promethazine for nausea during pregnancy?
I was going to ask my doctor about Zofran but I'm glad I didn't because I just read that it has astronomical chances of birth defects including cleft palate! She prescribed me promethazine and as I read over some of the side effects it's kind of worrisome. it's also prescribed as a mild sedative for anxiety and a painkiller Aid, as well as an antihistamine. If I don't have any of the side effects I'm kind of into the idea of it helping with anxiety but I'm already so low energy I don't want to deal with the drowsiness during the day! I took my first one last night and I slept good but between that and these hormones I had some crazy dreams!

I was prescribed something for morning sickness for my pregnancy with my son who passed away at 27 weeks . He was born with no skull .. I'm not sure if that caused that I'm sure I could have had something to do with it after I researched it and found other cases of pregnancies with the same thing happening to them after being prescribed medication for morning sickness .

Thats what I thought was the most common one prescribed for morning sickness, I was surprised by the research I pulled up on it

I took the one you are on right now made me dizzy and made my nausea worse for the first week but it eventually started helping!

I think I am going to mostly take it at night unless my am sickness gets any worse than it already is. I seem to feel worse at night anyhow

I was prescribed promethazine took it the first trimester and baby is perfectly healthy .. One thing I noticed tho is it would make me throw up up within the first 30 minutes of taking it and then I’d feel better the rest of the time until I needed to take another one

Thats interesting. I did read tjat it could make nausea worse. Did the pill stay down when you got sick?

I tried to hold it in for the first 30 minutes cuz it says it takes 30 minutes to take in effect.. and I would always throw up like at the 20 minute mark so I think most of it worked and Thts why I would feel better the whole day after I threw up

I was prescribed promethazine (phinergan) this pregnancy along with zofran. I had to take zofran during the day at work because my morning sickness was so severe. Just went for my anatomy scan yesterday and everything with baby looks perfect. He’s even measuring ahead in growth. Now I take half a phinergan at night with my prenatal to avoid morning sickness everyday. I know zofran has some scary side effects but what medication doesn’t. My doctor felt comfortable prescribing it to me with both my pregnancies and my babies are both healthy. Just a personal preference I guess. I will tell you promethazine will drain you even more. I can’t take it during the day. Puts me straight to sleep.

Happy to hear that your Scan read so well! I think I might just try to take it at night because having low energy is already such a downer for me!

I was ok it my whole pregnancy! It saves my life. I took it at night and during the day I got regalan only thing that kept me out of the hospital. The promethazine makes you really sleepy that’s why I took it at night

Yeah I read that the most common side effect is drowsiness so I'll probably stick to taking it at night as well
