It’s the county school district. And in our county the lowest income starts first. And then slowly (if there is space) higher income families can start. Just for prek though- since it’s not mandatory to go.
Yeah. Only because it’s state ran and not mandatory- just too many kids in the area.
From what the teacher was explaining to me, it’s less about actual education- because they are still so little - and more about a safe place where they will always get a meal.
It’s annoying because I make like nothing. But, my husband has a decent income, so we got bumped into the higher bracket like by a hair.
There are a ton of private preks, but we’d have to pay out of pocket $290+ a month, so we chose to just wait.

But here it’s like they only have so much space for something that isn’t required. Annoying though! Haha
