My brain honestly can't understand potty training like I literally don't get how a 2-3 year old is supposed to tell you when they need to use the washroom. It just blows my mind. I'm so confused

They learn to tell you when they learn the cues. Plus each kid has different signs. Some hold themselves. Some dance. Etc. in the beginning start by setting timers and going every 20-30 min til you find your routine.

@whereswaldo but right now when he pees he does nothing so why would he just randomly start holding himself or doing the pee dance?

He’s young. He’s probably not ready. My girls were 2.5 yrs when they were potty trained.

They dont. You tell them. You teach them. We took ds4 totally out of diapers and pull ups and took him to the potty every 1 to 2 hrs even if he got mad. At first we made the mistake of still putting pull ups on him and he wasn't progressing. Once we got rid of all the diapers he was fully trained in a week.

If he has no awareness and isn't leading the way he probably isn't ready. They all start at different ages.

@bodybycheetos at this point he knows what his diaper is hell point to it if you say diaper and he sits on his toilet when I sit on mine and he likes to use toilet paper and flush the toilet so he definitely has a curiousity about it but I don't get how they learn when they need to pee

I also think he is way too young. My son shows no sign of having to pee - he just does it. At his age right now, he'll point to his diaper to tell me he pooped, but he doesnt quite know yet WHEN he's going to poop. Slow progress. Like others said, keep an eye on his cues. Teach him the words or signs he should be doing to tell you that he has to go.

We’ve been potty training for 4 months. There are different phases. For my son it happened slowly. We now at the potty dance phase. We’re working pooping in the potty. You’ll have steps forward and steps back but stick to it. It’ll happen.
