I agree! Maddox is almost 2 and still wakes up a couple times a week for a bottle in the night.

After 6 months they are doing it out of habit, not the need for food though.

hmm. Good read but I don’t think it was spot on for breastfeeding but that’s okay. Thank you for the education.

breastfeeding or not they are capable of sleeping through the night.

I just meant the part about decreasing the amount babe gets at night by only nursing on one side. That could through off your whole supply. (I know this from recent experience)

I agree. Even if it’s not necessarily for hunger, we know that eating (especially breastfeeding) serves a whole bunch of other purposes and needs for babies including comfort, bonding, pain relief, etc.

Additionally for many working and breastfeeding mothers, their babies will do what’s called “reverse cycling” where they take only a few feeds during the day while away from mom and then consume the bulk of their milk throughout the night.

If I had cut my son off at night at 6m then it would’ve tanked my entire supply and I wouldn’t have been able to EBF for over a year while working full time. So there are a whole host of reasons to continue to feed babies at night past 6m and a whole host of scenarios that make night feedings appropriate and necessary.

This! Since starting my job my second doesn’t nurse as much during the day so she eats most at night. If I stopped nursing as much at night our journey would be over now. Breastfeeding is supply and demand- when there’s no demand there’s no supply
